This is a colossal ten disc region showcasing what the History Channel always did best in my conception - document World War II. I haven’t liked how the History Channel has “mainstreamed” its offerings over the last few years, and thus this space is a right treat for long time viewers. It’s also tremendous for your kids to peek if they believe that history is dumb - it will change their minds. The following are the set’s contents:

DISC ONE:

They feature no interviews, impartial O’Neal and at times, an anonymous narrator who, inexplicable, drops in additional voice-over material explaining in detailed narration over the graphic archival footage, the various battle campaigns. Venerable visual aids are traditional to highlight the action which at times consist of honest O’Neal, pointing at a plot. The episodes included are:

Great Blunders of World War II - Allotment 1

This disc contains four, 21 microscopic episodes from The History Channel miniseries, Grand Blunders of World War II. These compact slight docs from 1998 are engrossing looks at the fatal mistakes made by the Axis powers, that aided the Allied victory:

The German Blunder at Dunkirk: The 1940 Blitzkrieg upon Europe drove the British Expeditionary Force into the sea at Dunkirk, but the reckless belief of attack turned the chance to slay the British into history’s greatest hasten.

Hitler’s Declaration of War on the U.S.: Even with Hitler’s forces ravaging Europe, America hesitated to join the fight against him. All that changed, however, with the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, and a foolish decision by Germany to ally with Japan.

The Pilot who Bombed London: One lost and confused German pilot mistakenly dropped his bombs on London, igniting what became known as the Blitz and pushing Britain’s durability to its furthest limits.

Hitler’s Flying Blunders: The Luftwaffe’s lighting-fast, short-range fighter-bombers were archaic in relieve of highly mobile ground forces, a strategy which ultimately went horribly awry.

DISC TEN:

Great Blunders of World War II - Section 2

A continuation of the material on disc nine.

Japan’s Mistakes at Midway: On June 4, 1942, the fanatical and efficient Japanese war machine wanted to accomplish off the U.S. Pacific Rapidly, but their blind arrogance and underestimation of American willpower led them to peril instead.

The Failure of the Kamikaze: Steeped in the conventional code of the Samurai, Kamikaze forces on land, sea, and air sacrificed themselves in battle in a desperate order for victory that spelled ultimate doom for the Japanese Empire.

Death at Stalingrad: In Hitler’s quest to catch Stalingrad at all costs, he underestimated both the Russian winter and the steadfastness of the Russian people in the face of the Nazi threat.

Operation Sea Lion: In the wake of the British army’s flight from France, the British were all but beaten. But a Nazi invasion of England was inexplicably postponed, diverting definite triumph and ultimately leading to the Allied victory.

In addition to these four episodes, two additional episodes of Gargantuan Blunders of World War II are included: The Bomb Set to Ruin Hitler and The Scattering of Convoy PQ17.

I was glad to witness a unusual “supersized” history of WWII box site reach to DVD, and being a superfan of this subject bought it. I wasn’t expecting a lot of recent footage but I conception perhaps a fresh perspective would be refreshing.

I’m horrified disappointed is an understatement in describing how I felt while watching it… “War Chronicles” (Mort Zimmerman) was never my popular of the WWII documentaries, and this box site is built entirely on these worn reels.

Patrick O’Neal’s express drones on like the engines of a tired extinct bomber on a long hasten to the heart of Germany. You hear tiny else but his narration over the canned sound effects through the entire series.

I was particularly amazed at the lack of footage devoted to England and the Battle of Britain. Literally a couple of minutes!

A far better choice would be the “BBC History of World War II”, The “Definitive History of WWII” (Brentwood), “Visions of War” (Southern Star/IMAVision), or “The World at War” box sets.

If you mild wish to have this box situation, there will be plenty of very slightly traditional copies available very cheap, very soon!

10. It is your life - Intriguing between the Nova Scotia wing and NYC environments and live “young” - His grand younger wife Holly, and family life with kids under 5 - he turned seventy in 2005 but appears to live with the energy and drive of someone half his age

Oh, and yes, there is his music and projects sprinkled throughout it that really add to the tone and meaning of it…

This is an absolutely unbelievable film.

It’s an intimate peruse at the creative process and creative collaboration–and that includes the appealing interaction between the filmmaker and his subjects, among whom are some of the most accomplished people in contemporary art and cinema.

It is also a visually shapely, beautifully edited film that includes among its subjects several Glass theatre pieces which are stunningly gorgeous.

Best of all, Philip Glass turns out to be a wonderfully warm-hearted, endearing human being who has led, and continues to lead, a life that fully embraces all of life’s possibilities–at the age of 70.

Movie Title: The Secret
Average customer review:

The Secret is available for streaming or downloading.

Click Here to Stream or Download The Secret

The Secret is one of the best produced and edited DVDs of its kind that I have ever seen. And the line-up of teachers and presenters is fine. There is only one reason I give this DVD four stars instead of five. The Secret is about the Law of Attraction, and how we can exercise that Law to “attract” into our lives anything we want. But it spends 95% of the time talking only about being focused on what you want (rather than what you don’t want), and generating sure feelings about that. It only spends 5% of the time making it determined that what we really attract into our lives is the people, circumstances, and opportunities that lead us to what we want. In other words, when we use the principles mentioned in The Secret, doors start. But we have to peruse those doors for what they are and go through them. And that involves action. Many people who survey The Secret accelerate away with the impression that visualization and determined feelings is all it takes. It isn’t. You tranquil have to do something. As long as you retain that in mind, The Secret contains information that can be life altering. Savor!

Steven Lane Taylor, Author of Row, Row, Row Your Boat: A Guide For Living Life In The Divine Flow

With all the hype about The Secret, I was enthusiastic to collect out what everyone was talking about. I bought both the DVD and the CD region and watched with gigantic anticipation.

Perhaps because I have studied and utilized for over 2 decades some of the most worthy mindset tools, processes and technologies for creating what you want, my expectations may have been skewed compared to those who have never heard of or applied such concepts as the law of attraction.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Secret! Click Here

That is not to say the DVD/CD does not have value. I am clear there are people whose lives have been changed by it. I judge they did an outstanding marketing job. An outstanding “packaging” job in creating The Secret. The attraction principles do work, and they provided a sizable introduction to those who have not been exposed to them before.

For me personally, my first disappointment was the fact that what was dramatically (and cleverly) built up as “a secret” - which to me something you know that I don’t - was hardly a secret. These principles have been around for centuries, have been mainstream for decades, with thousands of books, seminars, etc. covering the same principles. I don’t relish books, tapes, etc. that overpromise and under mumble. So, to me, hardly a secret.

My second disappointment was the lack of depth around the subject matter. If you want more in-dpeth and leading edge info about how our thoughts fabricate our reality, invest in the DVD “What the Bleep? ” It offers captivating leading edge quantum physics principles, along with big animation explaining in simple layman terms, why and how we do our realities. In fact, some of the scientists on The Secret *first* appeared in “What the Bleep? ” I almost felt when I was watching The Secret, that they copied “What the Bleep? ” in many respects, although at a more superficial level.

My third disappointment/concern is how some Secret followers will justify the messagge in the movie. Again my perspective may be slightly skewed because I trained in and work with NLP (Neurolinguistic Programmming) which works drectly with the subconscious mind for helping people construct accelerated breakthroughs in their lives. The suggestions, recommmended processes, etc. in The Secret work primarily with the conscious mind. Yet it is our subconscious mind that drives 80% of our behaviors and outcomes in life.

Yes, if you practice their recommendations for months and months, the suggestions may eventually sink into our subconscious. However there are simpler, quicker ways to get what you want. The other part of that, because the subconscious mind does drive our results, there are many blocks — such as “secondary gains” for staying stuck, values conflicts, microscopic beliefs, etc. - below our conscious awareness that stops us from having what we want. Because the movie does not address the disagreement between the conscious mind and the subconscious mind, and treats the whole topic superficially as why some people manifest and some don’t, it creates the illusion that as long as you practice their suggestions, you will change your life. There is so noteworthy more than what is presented as to what are the differences that develop the contrast to creating what you want.

While I am gay that so many people are becoming more aware of these principles, I am concerned about the fallout as well. I am hearing people do potentially outrageous things like go into deeper debt, making dramatic life changes with blind faith, because the DVD tells them they can have what they want if they honest fill, etc.

I would suggest if you take the DVD to lift a few things that most resonated with you, and apply them to your life, as long as you don’t sacrifice or overhaul other areas of your life without looking at the expansive portray. Sort out the glitz from the message. Also check what is not upright for you and let go of it.

I would recommend the movie “what the bleep? ” It goes hand in hand with The Secret, although more in depth and was the fresh movie that brought these concepts mainstream.

Third, I recommend that you check out book on NLP (as well as hypnosis which is a sister discipline) . Out of all the mindset tools and technologies I have aged in over 20 years, I have found they are by far the most worthy. One of the best “beginner” books is: “NLP: The Current Technology of Achievement”.

Good luck and may your run be an abundant one!

Like most baby boomers, I’ve watched this film dozens of times in the past on broadcast TV, then VHS tape, then LaserDisc … but I had never actually SEEN “The Wizard of Oz” until this newly restored DVD came out. It’s an astonishing transfer. The sepia-tone Kansas sequences are startlingly absorbing and determined, and the Technicolored world “Over the Rainbow” is truly splendid. I found myself fascinated by details I had never noticed before: the glittering corn stalks in the Scarecrow’s field; the mirror-like floors of the Emerald City; the polished buttons on the guardsmen’s uniforms. Incredibly, even the individual grains of red sand in the Witch’s hourglass stood out and glistened! All these minor-but-sumptuous visual details served to heighten the magical spell that the film has always woven, enhancing the performances, the tale, and the music.

The DVD extras are a mind-boggling embarrassment of riches. The “Making Of” documentary hosted by the incomparable Angela Lansbury is worth the notice of the DVD alone, but there’s so great more: an international poster gallery, interviews with cast members, deleted scenes, production stills, radio clips, etc, etc. There’s enough material to support even the most casual viewer fascinated for hours, and a proper Oz buff will be occupied for days!

If you only bought a DVD player to explore this one disc, it would well be worth the expense. Treat yourself, and tumble in appreciate with this classic film again … for the first time.

I was unbiased critized for foisting off the following review of the 3-disk DVD region as a review of the unique Blu-ray. I didn’t; Amazon did. As anyone who’s been here for a while will glance, Amazon throws all DVD reviews into the same bucket, regardless of the edition. So don’t blame me.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Wizard of Oz! Click Here

There’s no need to discuss “The Wizard of Oz” itself, a classic among classics (though I’ll have something to say about its “philosophy” later on) . You probably want to know whether the UltraResolution transfer justifies the steal.

It does. Oh, yes it does.

“The Wizard of Oz” has always looked sterling, one of the better Technicolor films. Unlike “Gone With the Wind”, which was generally dusky and desaturated, and which UltraResolution greatly improved, I didn’t inquire great enhancement for “Oz”.

Was I ever dismal. I stared with my jaw hanging inaugurate. “Oz” is the best UltraResolution transfer by far — and the others were not exactly chopped liver.

The improvement in detail and sharpness is startling, especially as the new prints did not seem obviously lacking in either. Even more astonishing is the expansion of the tonal scale. Shadowy scenes (particularly those in the forest and outside the “witches” castle) are now filled with rich detail. Have you ever noticed how stunning the Winkies’ red, white, and gray uniforms are? I hadn’t — until now.

These enhancements combine earn the biggest improvement of all — a major revelation of _texture_. The “feltiness” of many costumes is distinct. The burlap of the Scarecrow’s face is now plainly visible, particularly in the close-up where he misstates the Pythagorean Theorem. And the Lion’s costume is a thick pile of fur you want to advance out and stroke. You can peek every last strand of hair.

I’m exaggerating only slightly when I say the improvements of this UltraResolution transfer are not noteworthy less than those from cleaning the Sistine Chapel’s frescos. It’s as if layers of murk and grime — that you never even knew were there! — have been stripped away. Until you plan it, you cannot imagine what this film (that is, the new camera negatives) _really_ looks like. It’s a shame the people who created “Oz” never got to survey it this contrivance.

The image quality is so high that I often felt as if I were looking through a window at live performers. (Well, almost.) No matter what versions you already have, you won’t be disappointed with this one. I watched it twice in two days, and I might even idea it a third time tonight.

My only quibble is that several matte paintings do not blend properly, because the hues at the join lines do not match those of the scene. This could have been fixed; I suspect it seemed too remarkable work for a cramped improvement. (A friend suggested that these sorts of things are left in because videophiles devour finding them.)

As to the differences between the two- and three-disk sets… The latter includes a packet of novel programs and promotional material of the sort we haven’t seen in 40 years ago. (Remember the 50-cent deluxe programs for road-show films? ) There’s also a residence of 10 reproductions of Kodachrome publicity photographs. For this viewer, these extras alone account for the higher note.

The third disk will be of most interest to lovers of all things Oz. It includes a handsomely produced biography of L. Frank Baum (moving enough that you might want to study it more than once), plus all the tranquil Oz films and a Technicolor Oz cartoon. The existence of these is celebrated to anyone familiar with the history of Oz productions, but they’ve never appeared (as far as I know) in any home-video format.

The films are problematic. The two from Baum’s production company are the best — they have style, charm, and imagination. The others are cheesy ripoffs that gain runt relation to the recent book. The Larry Semon — a once wildly-popular but now virtually forgotten cartoonist and funny * — version is especially inappropriate, as it is runt more than a vehicle for Semon’s tag of physical comedy. The Baum estate is at least partly to blame — _any_ movie version must have seemed more beautiful than none, especially as the technology to beget a convincing version of “Oz” would not exist for another 15 years.

The film’s opening titles praise the book’s “edifying philosophy”, which seems to be either “You already have everything you need to be tickled”, or “The reply to your problems lies within yourself”. These are not so distinguished “worthy” as reflections of the hard-nosed “All your problems are your acquire fault” and “If you’re not a success, it’s because you’re idle” homilies that grew out of the astronomical opportunity for personal development and material success this country offered.

I contain L. Frank Baum had something a bit different in mind. “The Wizard of Oz” is a fairy chronicle in which magic has no bearing on the issues at the center of the yarn. I contain Baum wanted to discourage children from fantasizing that magic could be a solution to one’s problems.

So… he has the four principals obtain a grueling hasten to the Emerald City, then accumulate the wizard is a humbug. (What a shame the blander “erroneous”, “fraud”, or “phony” have replaced that exquisite word.) He posesses no magic to supply wit, fancy, or grit, which the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman, and Cowardly Lion have demonstrated they already have.

Baum’s “proper” is simple — Esteem, wisdom, and courage are what we need to pick up through life. No one can _give_ them to us, because we _already_ have them, and all we need to do is direct them.

“Is that just? ”

“That’s all it is.”

Now… the inquire you’ve been waiting for the reply to… Is the Blu-ray spot worth the notice?

I viewed the Blu-ray on a Pioneer 60″ Pro Kuro, fed from a Sony BDP-S550. I also watched the DVD on the Pioneer (fed from the same Blu-ray player), and on a 36″ Sony 400-series WEGA “improved definition” TV (fed from a Sony DVP-S7000) .

The DVD remains a terrific DVD, and looks terrific on a high-quality 480i monitor. (Explore the preceding review.) It was, and quiet is, a demo-quality DVD.

When played on the BD player, and upconverted to 1080p, the DVD’s image on the Kuro is lovely darn profitable — the sharpness and detail are at least “acceptable”. But when you play the Blu-ray disk, the image goes from “acceptable” to almost-startling. Two examples… Effect the enhanced detail and texture in the weather-beaten wood above the WWE’s dead legs. And in the crowd scenes, you can ogle (honest about) every Munchkin face. There is virtually no smearing of detail.

So… should you hasten correct out in a buying frenzy and bag the BD edition? It depends.

The DVD is suited enough for an obedient represent on a high-quality SD monitor. But even upconverted, it isn’t agreeable enough for a _large_ HD indicate. If you have, say, a 40″ display; your BD player has a proper upconverter (not all do) ; and you don’t sit “on top of” the veil (as I do) ; you might view puny disagreement between the DVD and the Blu-ray.

But if you’re a video fuss-budget (as I am) and sit closer than the “experts” recommend (why _shouldn’t_ you? ), you will almost certainly recall the Blu-ray. It’s your call.

A few remarks on the extras… The wristwatch, as the kid in the Ally bank commercial says, is a section of junk. The originate shows no particular style, wit, or imagination. And as others have said, “The Dreamer of OZ” is a downhearted transfer, very badly unpconverted to 1080. It is not of acceptable quality, and should have been place on the DVD disk.

I will advance serve later (I hope) with some more comments on the sound and the other extras. Forcing yourself to repeatedly survey ample chunks of a movie, regardless of its quality, is an ennervating experience.

I guess for most US residents this wouldn’t be genuine for their kids, it isn’t a kids legend… it is very grand an adult account. And that is NOT saying it is ‘too sexy’ it is saying it is really the chronicle of an adults memories…from a science fiction characters viewpoint. Tenchi Muyo is my all time common, but Mahoromatic has taken its status Correct BESIDE Tenchi Muyo… and in a different sense. This is a really big fable in anime. And if you follow the nuances within the basic myth, you will gape impartial what I mean. It has romance and a very black oversoul to it that keeps one in suspense as to what the focus on the days of youth has to do with what is going on, until the very ruin… There is only one other anime event that really touched me as emotionally and that was the scene with Ryoko and Tenchi in the final scene of Tenchi Universe… but the scene with Mahoro and Saguru in the final scene of Mahoromatic was a actual attractive moment. All in all the mood appears light-hearted and young and adventurous all through the series… to those that seek only casually. This was a right surprise. Almost as romantically baroque as Wolf’s Rain in android sci-fi clothing… Come By THIS, you won’t be sorry, if you really want large anime in your collection!

First of all the guy who gave the one star review doesn’t know what the heck he’s talkin about. This is a re-release from Bandai Entertainment/Bandai Visual USA. Since Bandai Visual has the rights to GITS this release is as authentic as you net. The fact the disc will arrive with retranslated subtitles (Subtitles, not captions for the hard of hearing), three Dolby 5.1 audio soundtracks (Japanese, the English dub produced for the UK R2 DVD, and a current commissioned English dub) and Directors commentary makes this release ten times better than the pitiful Dreamworks release.

This is a re-release of the Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence. If you’ve seen the originally released DVD, you know that it wasn’t available with an English soundtrack- it was Japanese only with English subtitles. I’ll consume the re-released with the hope that the English dub does justice to the dialogue, which tends to wax philosophical. In the event the English doesn’t do the trick, it can unexcited be watched in Japanese with English subtitles. If you haven’t seen this wonderful film I strongly suggest you do– it’s visually!Blooming! The storyline is complex, yet compelling.

This is a agreeable comedy. It seems some people want to have every sad movie be akin to Boyz ‘N the Hood or Do the True Thing. First off, everything does not have to be salubrious. This is made to gain you laugh. Great performances turned in by Brian Hooks, and the awesome bit share turned in by Earl Stephens, a.k.a. E-40. Oh no, but don’t forget Faizon Adore. If you’re trapped in the the house by dreadful weather or whatever, win this up for non-stop laughs.

This movie is your average droll dark comedy, Brian Hooks plays a man who has been in jail twice and is out on parole, one more strike and he is out (25 to life), its a humourous comedy about the miscoincidenes that happen to him objective after he is out of jail, he is caught in a stolen car and is then seeked by the police.

I first started hearing about this at a celebrated fanfiction study. I ended up buying a Residence 2 DVD from England and buying a multi-region DVD player objective to satiate my curiousity. I WAS NOT DISAPPOINTED. The premise of novel day Pride&Prejudice fanatic, Amanda, finding herself swapping places with Elizabeth Bennet is proper out of a sci-fi, paranormal flick– but once the tale gets rolling in Regency England, the paddle is hastily and one better not blink! The rapid, cheeky conversations, and the twists & turns far flung from Jane Austen’s fresh are exciting and LOL laughable. Elliot Cowen as Mr Darcy is outstanding. I assume Jane Austen herself would have cast him! He had fair the honest amount of haughtiness, pride, arrogance, distain and finally tenderness. He gave me chills when he gave Amanda a gracious position down at Netherfield; so believable. The dash from Austen’s usual canon was surprisingly refreshing and the play with characters was delectable. If you are expecting Austen’s masterpiece P&P, this is not it. However, my Austenite sensibilities were not in anyway offended by this blatant & somewhat contrived legend. Not wanting to give anymore away, let’s impartial say that the entire ensemble was perfectly cast. It is all done in generous humour and very tongue-in-cheek. But I must admit, that had I been in Amanda’s shoes, I am definite I would have behaved better! And yes, I’ll probably pre-order the Situation 1 DVD, too!

I watched this on Oxygen, and it is delightfully done and concept provoking. The tired-of-her-modern-world protagonist yearns for the world of Jane Austen, when she inadvertently goes through a portal in her bathroom to gather herself not only help in time, but in the imaginary world of Pride and Prejudice. This is a fantastic addition to anyone hungry for more Austenmania.

With this release, fans everywhere can finally catch what they want: Doctor Who on DVD. We’ve all been waiting for the note to advance on disc, and although it’s been a bit longer than we’d hoped, this disc (and the other two) are well worth it!

Spearhead from Position - Third Doctor Jon Pertwee’s debut anecdote, and the first shown in color - has been carefully restored and remastered for this DVD, and it shows. The DVD looks genuine, with animated, vibrant colors and a vividness that US fans have never seen before. The disc far surpasses the dim compilation tape assign out years ago, with a distinct, intelligent report, and many of the faults removed.

Besides finally being released episodically - as the legend was both broadcast and meant to be seen - the extras are sizable too. They include a fun, amusing commentary by Nicholas Courtney (The Brigadier) and Caroline John (Liz Shaw), some expansive Production Notes (listed as a subtitle track), a UNIT recruitment film, a “Who’s Who” biography fragment, and even an Easter Egg.

It’s nice to gawk that the BBC has picked such a proper narrative for its first wave of DVDs. Not only is this a sizable Doctor Who sage plump of action, it introduces us to the Third Doctor’s era, the detestable Nestenes and their ability to control plastics, and the beginnings of the extended Doctor Who family the series would relish for the next five years. Let’s hope all future releases are this nice!

All in all Spearhead From Plot has been well-restored, has plenty of extras and entertains thoroughly. It’s fine of any Doctor Who fan’s collection, and will easily replace any other version you’ve got. I highly recommend it.

Jon Pertwee’s debut sage has always been considered to be a suitable account, arguably the best written debut of any incarnation of the Doctor, and one which introduced many recent aspects to his character. Robert Holmes’ third script for Doctor Who and his first bonafide classic, ‘Spearhead’ is equal parts suspense, action and whimsy, presented in an adult and often chilling manner. That’s not to say it is perfect. The puppets obsolete for the Nestenes are no where nearly as hideous as the faceless Autons, and the climax is quite comic (possibly intentionally, as it is preceded by so many disturbing scenes of mayhem) .

As is often mentioned, the explore of this narrative is fresh. Having been shot entirely on spot with film, this tale has a gritty, realistic gape to it which would never be emulated again by the series after the seventh season. As a result, ‘Spearhead From Space’ is one of the stories most gracious for presentation on DVD. The image transfer is crisp, vibrant and probably looks better than it did upon its unique transmission.

The DVD extras are fun additions. Caroline Shaw and Nicholas Courtney provide occassionally nostalgic commentary (Courtney’s memory is quite great), though grand of it consists simply of their reactions to parts of the sage that are chilling or amusing etc. Narrated by Courtney and Dexter Fletcher (’Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels’), the UNIT recruitment short is comic and features many short choice scenes from DW stories that have eager UNIT from ‘The Invasion’ lawful through 1989’s ‘Battlefield.’ The photo gallery is considerable for some charmingly comical publicity poses by Pertwee. The included trailers are for a ’90s DW night on BBC2 and rerun of ‘Spearhead,’ really more of a filler than a truly intelligent extra, but if the belief of a DW advert plot to a Blink-182 song intrigues you, study!

While the most compelling extras are on later DVD releases, the appeal of this memoir comes from the thrilling writing, inspired direction, cinematic photography and pleasing acting from Nicholas Courtney, Caroline Shaw, the guest cast and of course the exquisite Jon Pertwee. ‘Spearhead From Space’ has stood the test of time and remains a fun and haunting classic, one that looks better now than ever.
