I ordered this DVD for my 2 yr faded and when we got it, the first 2 episodes played wonderfully. When the DVD got to “Minnie Red Riding Hood”, before the opening credits were finished, the DVD let out an terrible noise that startled everyone in the room (the sound is similar to the emergency broadcast system’s noise) . After several moments of bleeping and frozen-ness, the DVD played again for another several seconds and then blared again. There was no noticeable injure to the disc and wiping it off did nothing to finish the blaring. We tried several times to figure out what was execrable, and every time it did the same thing. I called Amazon’s customer service, and they emailed me a return heed without any kind of hassle - tremendous customer service - and mailed a second copy of the DVD to us. That DVD arrived today, and wouldn’t you know, at the genuine same place of the DVD the valid same thing happened. This makes me deem the entire batch/pressing of this DVD for this particular round is base. Again, Amazon provided hastily customer service, emailed me another return note, and will refund my money for the DVD.

Recapping, the snarl of the DVD held my daughter’s attention, it’s fair that both copies we received were rotten. I’m jubilant Amazon has first-rate customer service who resolved both issues speedy and without hassle.

This is such a expansive DVD! My daughters are 2 and 1 and they admire it! Our friends have boys the same ages and they worship it as well. I appreciate that Minnie and Daisy are in every episode - it’s nice to explore female characters more often. Some other things that are broad about it:

1) There are 4 episodes plus bonus features so you score a lot of Mickey for the designate. It’s a better value than other Mickey DVD’s, with some only having 2 episodes.

2) This is so educational. There is tons of counting, color recognition, games to match items, and they are always on a “mystery” to find/save something and it’s fun to glimpse it evolve from begin to carry out. My children cherish it!

3) The voices are cute and the characters, in my notion, are not annoying. They are comic and they talk honest to the hide, so it’s enormous to study children respond benefit.

4) The familiar and predictable pattern of each note is perfect for toddlers. My children bawl out what’s coming, and they highly anticipate the “Hot Dog” song at the slay, as most children do. It’s all very catchy and well-written.

5) We don’t have cable to search for Playhouse Disney, so it’s huge they offer these shows on DVD. We also worship My Friends Tigger & Pooh on DVD - another immense kid’s exhibit. I like that we don’t pick up subjected to promos, ads and other Disney-related luring as seen on the channel. We objective fetch the point to on DVD and that’s it…no filtering required!

I highly recommend this DVD for toddlers. It will be a astronomical addition to your DVD library! :)

The latest DVD version of the classic Stallone action flick provides several supplemental features, the most considerable being the outstanding commentary by David Morrell who wrote the unusual the film is based on. More on that in a moment.

First Blood is about a Vietnam vet named John Rambo who comes to a runt Washington area town (actually British Columbia) to win the last surviving comrade from his elite Green Beret unit. When he discovers that he too is humdrum, Rambo makes his plot into town for a bite to eat and instead winds up being arrested by the hick local sheriff (Brian Dennehy) . While in custody, Rambo is abused by the locals but manages to dash sparking an all out manhunt.

This film has 55 minutes of action out of 96 total highlighted by the jail hurry and subsequent lag. Jack Starrett is large as the cop that does most of the abusing while Davis Caruso is radiant as the only deputy (among the surprisingly enormous local force) that seems to have a conscience. Dennehy is proper as always and makes a well-behaved opponent for Rambo. Richard Crenna is vast as Rambo’s passe CO and he and Dennehy play off one another quite well. Even though he has little speaking parts, this is probably one of Stallone’s best performances highlighted by the “Vietnam speech” arrive the extinguish of the film.

The film is presented in digitally remastered widescreen 16:9, and is without a doubt the best video presentation of First Blood to date. The movie was shot in the temperate rain forest of BC and is quite black at times. However, the darkest scenes have been enhanced here and are mighty improved over the various VHS versions some of which are dreadful. Sound is Dolby 2.0 only but not awful considering. Also included are a cute trivia game (procure all 10 true without a mistake to view a Rambo cartoon), production notes, and a teaser and trailer. The “featurette” is nothing more than a glorified trailer.

Now on to the best feature of this DVD, one that is worth the imprint of admission all by itself. If you are at all involved in how films are made and the tedious the scenes tidbits about Hollywood, then Hurry do not bolt (or let your fingers do the walking online) to your local video store and glean this disc. Why? For the outstanding commentary of writer David Morrell. This talented man begins to enlighten before the opening credits and does not close for 96 minutes. When he does you will wish he could have continued for 96 more. You will pick up yourself listening again and again and picking up something unusual each time. This is without a doubt far and away the best commentary on any DVD.

1.The many differences between his original and the film-very bewitching stuff.

2.His experience when seeing First Blood the very first time.

This review was first written in 2001. There are now several DVD versions of the film available. Check the special features carefully as the David Morrell commentary DOES NOT appear on all. It IS NOT included on the latest “Ultimate Edition” DVD. There is a commentary by Stallone instead as well as some other novel features. I rob the “Special Edition” version but you may want both if you are a fan.

I was fortunate to look this on the stout cover and have to say it is not only one of my fav.Stallone films but one of my fav.films for all time. We all know the anecdote of Rambo so I unprejudiced want to point out why this film is so classic. The script and music are salubrious and even the supporting actors have gargantuan lines(BUT WILL!! I HAVE TO BE AT THE DRUG STORE TOMORROW MORNING) Stallone has oh I’d say 30 lines of dialog in the whole movie

and yet it is one of his best. Action stars like Stallone don’t need dialog

they impartial need to kick butt and that is what this movie does.

Prior to this installment other Ilsa chapters under consideration were Ilsa vs. Idi Amen, and Ilsa Meets Bruce Lee in the Devil’s Triangle (an ad campaign was even circulated for this film) . For various reasons the ideas fell apart and Dyanne Thorne (the star of the previous Ilsa films) went to Portugal to star in the Jess Franco film entitled No Man’s Land. The film was later retitled Greta the Torturess of Las Polamas, then Greta the Excited Butcher, and Wanda the Ghastly. Today it is best known as Ilsa the Contaminated Warden, cashing in on the success of the Don Edmonds nazi obnoxious classic, Ilsa, She Wolf of the SS (1974) . Supposedly based on an steady case history, Base Warden is not Franco at his best. Thorne looks gorgeous spectacular in a full-bodied red wig, but overall the film fails to lisp. “Ilsa” is now in an unspecified Latin American dictatorship, running the Clinic of Las Palomas, which treats sexual deviation in panty-less women, and tortures political prisoners in the basement. Stomach churning scenes include a women outmoded as a human pincushion, while another unpleasant sole is forced to lick an inmates ass well-organized after she has objective ancient the toilet. The commentary track by Dyanne Thorne, and Co-star Howard Maurer is mostly talk about working with a non-English speaking cast, and how this film was incorrectly added to the Ilsa series. “…I contemplate the production company (Canada’s Cinepix) did us all a grave injustice by turning The Unfavorable Warden into an Ilsa film,” states Dyanne Thorne in an interview she had conducted with Darkside Magazine shortly after the release of this DVD

Ho boy, what to say about this? I admit to viewing this and the recent Ilse movie out of curiosity…well, my curiosity has been cheerful. Of the two movies, this one is more everything. It’s sexier, it has mighty more girl/girl doings, and it has longer sickening torture scenes in it. And the harmful out ending should satisfy all who appreciate such things. The scary fragment is the fact that this is clearly meant to be entertainment, and that there are people who will be entertained by it.

I would dearly like to give this a one star rating…goodness knows I’m not likely to be recommending it to anyone. I even hesitate to let anyone know I’ve seen it. However, I am not one to pass apt judgments. Privately, I feel this movie should never have been made, but I don’t have the proper to determine what other people are able to search for. So, I will allow it three stars, but with the warning to all that this is absolutely a contemptible out cult film.

We have always had classical music playing in our home so when Kate was 6 months broken-down, we purchased Baby Mozart. At first I was a bit disappointed: I expected orchestra arrangements and better production values. But soon I realized, duh, it’s for kids, not adults. The simple musical arrangements and coarse tech images are apt on target for babies. Kate LOVES this video. As soon as the opening credits launch, her hands and feet inaugurate to dance and a titanic smile appears. We point out the different images (”absorb”,”apple”,”bellow”….”bright whirling thingie”) to create it a family interactive time. The educational component makes us feel a minute less guilty over TV having anything to do with the education/entertainment of our precious bundle of joy. It would be easy to find sucked into the “video babysitter” vortex (Kate is totally enthralled for 30, count ‘em, 30 minutes) but, like anything else, the video is colossal when customary in moderation. Kate’s now 10 1/2 months and unprejudiced as aroused about watching Baby Mozart. We’ve added Baby Bach to her repertoire too.

Friends gave us the BABY MOZART video (made 1998) as a gift for our infant when he was 4 months stale. He loved it then and he loves it now. It completely holds his attention for the 28 minutes or so it runs. Our diminutive guy has watched it dozens of times over the last two months. It takes Mozart’s music and presents it in very child-friendly renditions with simple visuals of toys and puppets. The pacing and length are exactly suitable.

We have played BABY MOZART about 3 times a week for the last 2 months and our cramped guy enjoys it every time. He smiles and giggles at his popular parts. Beget it or not, the only time he loses interest is when the credits and ads arrive on at the ruin! We can almost guarantee ourselves almost a half hour of getting chores done around the house as the program runs. (Assume it on DVD because you will eventually wear out the tape.)

Based on the Mozart program, we soon bought BABY BACH (made 2000) and BABY BEETHOVEN (made 2002) on DVD. Build your money. BABY BACH is a total bust. He lasts about 7 minutes at best. He never liked it. I don’t like it. Boring composed shots of toy instruments honest sitting there and gratuitous shots of kids lend nothing.

BABY BEETHOVEN is a heavenly program and our tiny guy will sometimes sit through about 15 minutes of it but it pales in comparison to BABY MOZART. The Beethoven video includes even more pointless shots of children and lots of [pricey] toys and mobiles which it promotes at the raze.

The music on BEETHOVEN and BACH is certainly as righteous as the Mozart video but for our baby and for us, the overall presentations objective don’t crop it.

BABY MOZART however is a unbelievable program and should be in almost every child’s video library. With Mozart, they did come by magic in a bottle. Too terrible they weren’t able to narrate it with the later efforts.

Previously only viewable on television, this DVD allows kids to survey current episodes over and over again, and introduces a double-length episode where Sportacus is given a forced vacation while Stephanie takes on the Superhero role. There are two previously aired episodes on the DVD - one where Robbie dons a dinosaur disguise to dread Sportacus, and one where he disguises himself as a doctor and makes them cessation eating vegetables.

With a combination of right actors and puppets, this is a very determined family oriented indicate, advocating first-rate living habits, mixed with song, dance and humor. Highly recommended for anyone with kids between 2 and 6 years obsolete, even though many adults may fetch it a shrimp cheesy.

“LazyTown” is a present marrying live-action and animation, a fairly modern port to the United States from Iceland. “LazyTown” features a human girl, Stephanie, a human hero, Sportacus and his human nemesis, Robbie Substandard. The rest of the characters are CGI attractive and quite well too. The setup is this — generally in each episode, Sportacus (advocate of getting up and going) battles the plots and schemes of Robbie Disagreeable (trying and endlessly failing to produce those in LazyTown inactive, also a master of disguise.) He unbiased can’t stand all the activity in LazyTown, but usually ends up expending a lot of energy himself trying to cessation it. The simple fact is, no one’s indolent in LazyTown anymore, largely thanks to Stephanie, an energetic girl with bubble-gum pink hair. She’s collected fairly unique in town and living with her Uncle, Mayor Meanswell. Her group of friends is Ziggy, Pixel, Trixie and Stingy.

“LazyTown” is loaded with high energy, fun songs. The opening theme and “droll words” songs can be heard in every episode and there’s also at least one other original song in each one.

This DVD features three episodes of the indicate, including a special double-length episode — “LazyTown’s Unique Superhero.” This one plays around with the format a bit, as the kids resolve to give Sportacus a vacation. While Sportacus struggles to relax and purchase it easy, Stephanie does her best to become the unusual town superhero. Also included in this DVD are “Scream Dinosaur,” in which Robbie Unpleasant dresses up as a dinosaur to panic “Sporta-Crybaby” and “Dr. Rottenstein,” in which he tricks the kids into believing they have spotty vegetitis and must snarl off vegetables and eat nothing but junk food. Not only that, but under the guise of Rottenstein, he bans Sportacus from LazyTown “forever,” another one of his veteran tricks.

In case you’re wondering why I gave this four stars instead of five, it’s because of the special features. I truly occupy that DVD releases these days must have grand special features in order to receive a five-star rating. Unfortunately, this DVD fair doesn’t measure up. All you gather are written character profiles that you can browse through, a couple of pages of “Nicktrition” tips and some short previews for Dora and Blue’s Room DVD releases as well as “My Puny Pony: A Very Minty Christmas.” These are okay, there’s definitely nothing rotten with them, but it only takes about five minutes to go through at most. It couldn’t have harm to establish at least a bit more anguish into some nice special features.

This is a review of the quality of the Planet of the Apes [Blu-ray. The video looks reliable for a film as musty as this, but is not even cessation to graceful. The high def transfer in some cases actually serves to accentuate problems you might not have noticed otherwise. I saw more than a few soft scenes where they looked unfocused. Grain was never too obtrusive, but the colors were uneven through a marvelous piece of the film. Some scenes were rich and quick-witted, and others washed out. My biggest plight is the sound. They explain the sound here as a DTS 5.1 mix, and a mono mix. I chose DTS and was sorely dissapointed. My subwoofer never kicked on. That means that there was never an instance when there was a frequency lower than about 85hz. This made for a very shallow sounding mix. Adding to that, the surround speakers never seemed to register anything, and you’ve got what sounded to me like a mono mix anyway. All of the sound seemed to advance from my center channel. To me, digitally remastering a film soundtrack at this level means accentuating the lower registries by adding lower frequencies, and placing atmospheric and musical elements in the surround channels. If you don’t conception on doing that, what’s the utilize of calling it a DTS 5.1 mix? Anyway, this is by far the best transfer I’ve ever seen of the film, but don’t be looking for anything more than a slightly better than average transfer, and a glorified mono track.

I recently watched this novel version of “The Planet of the Apes” for the first time since seeing it at a drive-in theater relieve in 1968. First I was amazed at how grand of the film I had forgotten. Actually, most of what I remembered was the (then) repugnant ending. What I was impressed with this time around was what an incandescent and well-scripted film this was (and collected is) . Like any helpful science fiction, this film provides an animated commentary on the human condition. One the one hand you have the Minister of Science and Defender of the Faith debunking and destroying an archeological dig, because it is contrary to the faith of the Apes, but on the other hand in his reading from the sacred scrolls you hear the true description of the destructive (dare I say “contemptible? “) nature of humans. I’ve been pondering this segment of the film quite a bit over the past few days. Like others, I believe Charlton Heston is in aesthetic beget here. It’s easy to relate him as president of the National Rifle Association after seeing this film. I unruffled take Heston in “Ben Hur” and “the Ten Commandments,” but that probably reflects my personal interest in the stories that are told there. As one Academy Award film-maker recently said upon receiving his lifetime achievement Oscar (I contemplate it was Norman Jewison), “Acquire a epic that needs to be told and narrate it.” This version of “The Planet of the Apes” certainly tells a grand sage, and tells it well.

Both women have significant ties to North America. Quiroz’s mother traces her daughter’s green eyes to her long-vanished father, a Canadian archeologist on a dig in Michoacan. Ortega’s father, who abandoned his family during the Mariela boatlift, turns out to be an electrician living in New Jersey. This is a fine example of what happens when a filmmaker follows the logic of a subject that intrigus him rather than conforms to a preset script. Who the Hell Is Juliet? seems to be discovering itself as it goes along, just like its two appealing heroines. –Dave Kehr

Drifting as far from Michael Winner’s original and interesting 1974 Death Wish as possible, this belated sequl in an often ugly series is nevertheless a harmless, fairly conventional thriller featuring a watchable cast. After his life of loss and misery at the hands of criminals, vigilante Paul Kersey is ready to settle down in romantic bliss with a fashion designer named Olivia (Lesley-Anne Down). Unfortunately, the lady happens to be the target of her mobster ex-husband (Michael Parks), who has a tight grip on New York’s garment district. Disfigured and finally murdered by her former spouse, Olivia is avenged in very creative ways by Paul, who resorts to such esoterica as using a remote-controlled soccer ball to deliver an explosive punishment. Bronson largely phones it in for this potboiler, though even in the winter of his life he can look quite compelling in his stoic way. Helping to keep things interesting is Parks’s kinky crulty and Saul Rubinek’s vaguly bemused performance as a well-meaning prosecutor. –Tom Keogh
