The stout matchup between the main character and his rival is worth the impress alone… it’s a grueling fight that lasts the better share of two episodes.

The remaining three episodes are also splendid genuine, but more of a buildup for volume 3.

I’d recommend checking out volume 1 before jumping into this. Volume 1 is mostly expository, so it’s not as quite as favorable as this one, but I’d say it’s distinguished to enjoy volume 2.

Way, intention too many comparisons to the unique version of this film, which is a shame: BEDAZZLED stands wonderfully and beautifully on its occupy merits. Directed by comedic genius Harold Ramis, this is a fast-paced, well-crafted, highly imaginative, hilarious film. Heck, even my accountant laughs at this one, which is saying something.

Based on the tried and suitable Faustian theme of selling one’s soul to the devil, BEDAZZLED introduces us to hapless Elliot Richards (Brendan Fraser), whose mediocre existence revolves around getting Alison, an graceful coworker (played by Frances O’Connor) to behold him, let alone go out with him. In desperation, Elliot offers to sell his soul to net Alison’s affection, and the devil responds.

But this isn’t unprejudiced any ol’ devil. This is a heart-palpitating, traffic stopping, bark at the moon Elizabeth Hurley, who makes a most lusty Lucifer, and who wears enough revealing outfits to pack a heart trauma center. Hurley’s devil is seductive, roguish, and of course delightfully faulty. She grants Elliot seven wishes to derive over Alison, but she’s ingenious enough to turn each optimistic wish into a peril. For example: Elliot wishes to be a rich and considerable businessman, married to Alison; the devil grants his wish, only Elliot is a South American drug lord, hated by his wife and under siege from all sides. Each wish–no matter how carefully Elliot thinks he has covered all the bases–blows up in his face, to the overjoyed delight of the viewer.

What really impressed me was Fraser himself. Before seeing this film, I had placed the actor into the Stallone category of mutton heads, but Fraser very pleasantly surprised. His role required a wide range of diversity–from a blockheaded NBA superstar to an bright bestselling author–and Fraser not only pulls it off, he’s incredibly laughable in the process. He helps effect BEDAZZLED absolutely bedazzling. . .along with Hurley’s legs.

I was actually moved to tears by the sublime beauty of this gorgeous film. Brendan Frasier is obviously a master of the acting arts, and his performance conveys a subtlety that is hardly ever found in serious dramas powerful less brilliantly made comedies like this one. The directing, acting,and writing are a model for all comedies. I assume Hurley may be the most gifted and scrumptious comedic actress I have ever seen, with the possible exception of Julia Roberts. I also want to add a personal notice.This film spoke to me. It moved my soul.In fact, it had a vast impact on my life.After watching this movie I indeed realized that everything is nothing. Select this movie. It is well worth your time and money.Sit down and recognize it with your family, and celebrate the greatness that is “Bedazzled”.

Masaki Kobayashi, the acclaimed director of Japanese classics such as “HARA-KIRI” and “Samurai Rebellion” has always made a distinguished stance against established authority. He made a scathing indictment of the “Code of Bushido” and criticized the arrangement samurai clans have treated its retainers and their families. Kobayashi’s “THE HUMAN CONDITION” is his mettlesome indictment of the war itself that criticizes established authority. Disc One: “No Greater Adore” (1959)

Kaji (Tatasuya Nakadai) is a young man who is a pacifist and a socialist. He marries his sweetheart Michiko (Michiyo Aratama) despite the uncertainties in the future. Kaji agrees to work as a mining supervisor in an iron and ore mining spot in Japanese-occupied Manchuria to avoid getting drafted to fight a war he doesn’t have in. Kaji becomes partly successful in reforming the working conditions in the mining dwelling, although his ideas are often contested by his superiors. Despite being trained to fight a war he doesn’t fill in, Kaji proves himself a first-rate soldier and tries to implement his humanistic idealism to the treatment of other enlisted men who are being brutalized by the veterans. The film reaches its unforgettable climax as Kaji is sent to the front line to fight off the advancing Soviet army.

Disc Three: “A Soldier’s Prayer” (1961)

The Japanese Kwantung army is shattered as Kaji, along with several survivors embark on an yarn promenade on foot through miles of forest, desert, and fields southward in the hopes of reuniting with his wife. After Kaji survives perils including starvation and untrustworthy allies, he gets captured by Soviet forces that echoes the treatment of the Chinese prisoners meted out by the Japanese in the first film. Kaji eventually becomes disappointed that communism which he hoped would be the catalyst for human liberation, seemed no different from the oppressive systems he had struggled against. Kaji escapes into the winter wasteland in the hopes of reuniting with his wife Michiko.

The Review:

Hailed as “One of the Greatest Films Ever Made”, “The Human Condition” is one film whose experience may seem inspirational but it also proves utterly depressing. This trilogy embodies both the flaws and strengths of humanity as it unrelentingly brings the faces of morality and decency into opposing sides against the natural instincts of men. The film may also exhibit to be inspirational as savor and decency seemingly tries to fetch a draw to survive amid the bleakness of whatever space fate may deal one into.

The First film is the longest film of the three as Kaji takes his theories to improve the working conditions of the mining position. This is Kaji at his purest earn as he tries to bring his theories into scheme. This is also where the main protagonists are faced with honest dilemmas as they try to weigh the rights and the wrongs. I loved the scenes when Kaji begins to inquire of himself for his absorb decisions and the more he gets deeper into the position with the Chinese prisoners, the more difficult it gets for him to face his wife. Kaji manages the rations and rewards the prisoners with prostitutes. The film makes a distinguished statement in pointing out the potential successes of working together as embodied by the Chinese, but mistrust and suspicion becomes the main opposition for two races to work together. It also bleakly portrays the two sides of human nature as there are those who would stand to profit or steal advantage of any set at the cost of others; as kindness and notion may sometimes point to to execute mixed results.

The second fragment of the film series portrays Kaji in the military, under suspicion because of his revolutionary ideas. The film exposes the politics in the military and the diagram, soldiers tend to mimic their superiors in the design they treat fresh recruits. Children and veteran people have no situation in this world, as the group is faced with starvation. This chapter also brings the consequences of being on the losing side of the war, as Japanese refugees are left aimless, hungry as the women are raped and abused, not honest by Soviets but also by the Japanese themselves. There is a very disquieting sequence as a young girl retains of hope of reuniting with her parents despite being raped by the soldiers of the Red Army. She finds those hopes dashed when she becomes victimized by the very soldiers who were supposed to protect her. I found it hard to ogle some Japanese women offer themselves up as sex slaves to survive, at least until they can rep male protection.

I teach Kobayashi wanted to create a commentary on the manner that people tend to study out for themselves. My comments are not based on the final release that is pending, so my apologies for those who abominate reviews without product pick. I have previously owned the Image Entertainment individual single-disc editions of each share of the trilogy. I also viewed the entire trilogy during its 2008-2009 nationwide tour by Janus Films (peruse their link off the Criterion residence) and spoke in-person with Tatsuya Nakadai during his NYC visit. Given that the 4-disc release is expected to be based on the unique original 35mm prints, please know that the improvements on both audio, describe and subtitle qualities are essential. Do not win the earlier singe-disc editions.

When Warner Bros purchased the rights to the 1959 musical hit GYPSY it was intended to obtain a purely dramatic film, with songs from the Jule Styne & Stephen Sondheim Broadway come by confined to the theatrical sequences. Rosalind Russell was chosen for the starring (but non-musical) role of Mama Rose along side Natalie Wood as Gypsy Rose Lee. However impartial as this version of GYPSY began filming, THE MUSIC MAN opened in theatres and scored a colossal hit. It was then decided that GYPSY should be filmed as a musical follow-up to THE MUSIC MAN. The production closed down and was revamped as a musical. Rosalind Russell could dispute but not in the style her role demanded (all of Mama Rose’s songs in the Broadway production were written in the unique Mama Rose, Ethel Merman’s vocal style) . It was decided to bring in singer Lisa Kirk to encourage Russell with the vocals rather than re-cast the role. The waste result fully justifies this decision because Rosalind Russell’s Mama Rose is simply beautiful and the combination of Russell and Kirk in the songs is so perfect you never know (or care) who is doing the singing. No other actress, before or since (which includes such famous performers as Ethel Merman, Angela Lansbury, Bette Midler and Tyne Daly), even comes finish to conveying the monster in mother’s clothing that was Mama Rose the method Russell does while calm allowing the humanity of the character to emerge now and then only to become subservient once again to her driving ambition.

Natalie Wood is also safe as Gypsy Rose Lee, who succeeded beyond her mother’s Dreams. Her mother and daughter showdown scene with Russell is riveting. A young, vibrant Ann Jillian gives equally expansive relieve as Dainty June, the focus of Mama Rose’s machinations for most of the film, who also went on to become June Havoc, one of the most renowned stage actresses of her time.

Besides sizable acting, the songs are performed with a bravura and brilliance that far outclasses all other versions of this musical. In fact the Warner Bros. Studio Orchestra plays this music so magnificently it makes the more new Bette Midler TV version sound anemic by comparison. The Dolby Digital 5:1 Discrete Surround envelopes you into the proceedings and the animated, richly saturated Technicolor wide cover image (2:35-1) is fully equal to the suited audio.

But it is Rosalind Russell in one of the greatest cover performances ever committed to film that drives this version of GYPSY to the top of the heap and makes this DVD a “must beget.”

What a treat it was to re-watch GYPSY after lo these umpteen years. Rosalind Russell’s Rose is a leer in mammoth force-of-nature type acting. As it happens, hers is the only Rose I’ve ever seen, so I cannot really catch into the who-was-better argument with any right authority. But it’s hard to imagine that Merman could have played this archetypical stage monster, uh, mother with more authority on the immense camouflage. My guess is that those who gain that Russell brings subtlety to the character that Merman could not have are apt. Merman may have been titanic on stage, where bigger is better (direct, manner, gesture and all out pizzazz), but what works wonderfully on stage may be deadly on hide (and vice versa) .

Roz was the quintessential tough gigantic on veil. She projected warmth, as well as street smarts though–and that was the order of the day with the veil version of GYPSY. She’s supported by a astounding cast: Karl Malden, objective stout as always, as her mammoth lug/softie of a suitor. And Natalie Wood, fetching as always, as the young, sweet vulnerable Louise.

GYPSY is as salubrious a musical as you’re going to accumulate. Quick-witted, touching, sassy. They don’t beget ‘em like that anymore. Well, of course, they don’t really execute musicals grand anymore, but you know what I mean.

I hope I won’t leave Roz Russell fans crushed when I mention one thing, however. For years, I old-fashioned to tout Russell’s talk-singing as proof that a talented actor with even moderate vocal ability could always learn to assign over a song. Now I learn from imdb.com that the vocals (some? all? ) may have been supplied by actress Lisa Kirk. I am shocked–not appalled, but apprehensive. If those vocals aren’t Roz’s occupy, well, it’s fair about a perfect match. The songs are sung in as gritty a inform as Roz uses in delivering the lines. I have no doubt that Russell could have pulled it off herself, and it may have been the case that some suit at the studio chickened out and brought in Lisa.

Well, it could have been worse. At least they didn’t go against type and wander in Marni Nixon.

PS–Ah yes, it only occurred to me to check a dinky further to explore if there was a soundtrack album on CD to ogle what the dependable scoop on the Lisa/Roz business was. It’s correct that Lisa was brought in after Roz had already recorded her versions. Since Roz’s outtakes are included on the CD, it’s doubtless enlightening. The reviews (all customer reviews, in this case) are penned by fans in the know, and although no one can agree, they’re well worth taking a discover at if you’re at all enthralling. Purchasing the CD may well be worth it if you’re very attractive.

In my understanding, a grand film adaptation of Philip Barry’s Play, with a shiny performance by expansive actress, Ann Harding; Myrna Loy is grand too, as Leslie Howard’s alluring, sensual and manipulative wife; Leslie Howard’s friendly as usual, and all of them gain blooming aid from Neil Hamilton, Ilka Inch, Henry Stephenson, and especially, William Gargan, who is hilarious as a joke of a butler! (he’s an ex-fighter) . Perhaps it may be regarded as kind of talky and stagy by today’s standards, but anyway it’s radiant adult stuff with substantial dialogues and subtleties, and a stout example of what could be done with a beautiful script and cast, before the Production Code was fully enforced in 1934.

Nice one. Leslie Howard is a lot more entertaining in this than he ever was as Ashley Wilkes. Perenially sympathetic Myrna Loy is sexy and not so nice. Ann Harding and William Gargan are quite solid. The dialogue is rapid and sizable. The acting is first rate. The conflict itself doesn’t have so remarkable merit. This is rather a shallow and rapid told anecdote about a man choosing depth over surface. But smooth the movie is a lot more vibrant than some of today’s fare, at once a itsy-bitsy bit thoughtful and bright.

I am writing this review to right a previous reviewer. Instead of discussing the pros and cons of this movie “laddie5″ simply engaged in a character assassination of Ronald and Nancy Reagan. Having actually seen this movie, I can shriek you that it is definitely a agreeable one–and also highly underrated! The movie was well adapted from a unique by Vice-Admiral Charles A. Lockwood. Two years ago Warners released “The Doris Day Collection” which mercurial became a best seller. It contained some choice Day films from the 50’s and 60’s and reacquainted a lot of people with the wide-ranging talents that Doris Day possesses. There was a reason she reigned as the top box-office female star in history, a title she holds to this day. Volume 2 contains 6 more reasons why Doris Day collected has that current ability to manufacture audiences feel warm, bid, tickled, and very pleased.

“I’ll View You in My Dreams” is the amazing bio of lyricist Gus Kahn and contains a trunkload of classic tunes sung perfectly by Day, co-star Danny Thomas and Patrice Wymore in a knockout performance. It has noteworthy more grit than the typical biography and Miss Day is exceptionally pleasurable as Kahn’s wife Grace. Michael Curtiz has directed the film in sad and white which seems to get it more serious than many films of this mileau.

“On Moonlight Bay” (1951) and it’s sequel 1953’s “By the Light of the Silvery Moon” are like a couple of Currier and Ives pictures brought to life. Warm-hearted and filled with a earn of titanic tunes, they lovingly remove an era that might have been or at least was in memory. Miss Day, co-star Gordon MacRae and “family” - Leon Ames, Rosemary DeCamp, Billy Gray and Mary Wickes, seem like a family. Loosely based on Tarkington’s “Penrod” tales, it had critics carping that it wasn’t “Meet Me In St. Louis” and it isn’t. On its acquire terms it is unprejudiced as scrumptious filled with charm and ample warmth, never forced and never trite.

The weakest link in the collection is probably “Lucky Me”, the first technicolor musical and subject to valuable pans at the time of its release.

Miss Day and a pleasing supporting cast including Bob Cummings, Nancy Walker, Phil Silvers, Eddie Foy Jr and Martha Hyer, give it their all. The songs may not be memorable but they are energetically rendered and there are enough chuckles sprinkled throughout to support the film going.

One will reach away from this 12 hour marathon of Doris Day films feeling extremely obedient, exhilirated in fact, and possibly wishing that Hollywood unruffled made the kind of feel-good movie that Doris specialized in during her 7 years at Warners. Feeling that procedure in this day and age is something not to be scoffed at. If someone could bottle that indefinable quality that Doris Day possesses and part it with the world, we’d all relieve.

THE DORIS DAY COLLECTION: VOLUME 2, from Warner Home Video, has six of Miss Day’s earliest and most palatable musical romances. Five were filmed in a square TV ratio, while the sixth is in CinemaScope. And five are in brand-new Technicolor, while a sixth is in B&W.

ROMANCE ON THE HIGH SEAS (1948) –Doris’ feature film debut is in eye-blinding Technicolor and area on a Caribbean coast with incorrect identity. Georgia Garrett (Doris) poses as Mrs. Elvira Kent on the ship, while the valid Elvira (Janis Paige) stays home to leer on her maybe philandering husband. Georgia is wooed by Jack Carson, while Mr. Kent (Don DeFore) hires someone to sight on the loyal Elvira, who is presumably on the same ship but isn’t. Oscar Levant is fabulous. Michael Curtiz directed a witty script by the Epstein Brothers and I.A.L. Diamond. Cameos include Franklin Pangborn and Grady Sutton. Jule Styne and Sammy Cahn songs include the classic “It’s Magic”. It must have been a hit even in 1948 because it is sung three times. This is an absolutely astonishing movie. Bonuses include a theatrical trailer, a musical short, and a Tweety & Sylvester short.

MY DREAM IS YOURS (1949) –Michael Curtiz directs again and Jack Carson (Doug Blake) again is the romantic male lead for Doris as singer Martha Gibson. When arrogant singing star Lee Bowman acts like a prima donna one too many times, Doug fires him and becomes agent to Martha, who becomes a well-liked and likeable radio singer. Extraordinary supporting cast of pros includes S. Z. Sakall, Eve Arden, and Adolphe Menjou, with cameos by Franklin Pangborn, Edgar Kennedy, and Bugs Bunny! Harry Warren and Sammy Cahn songs include “My Dream is Yours” and “Someone Like You.” This is another shimmering Technicolor production. Bonuses include an Oscar-nominated drama short, a Joe McDoakes comedy short, a classic cartoon, and a theatrical trailer.

I’LL Recognize YOU IN MY DREAMS (1952) caught me off-guard because it is one of Doris Day’s few B&W movies. Quiet, it is photographed by Ted McCord, whose credits range from Fancy OF THE SIERRA MADRE (1948) to THE SOUND OF MUSIC (1965) . We have Danny Thomas as song writer Gus Kahn, who apparently wrote the lyrics to literally hundreds of favorite songs in the first few decades of the 20th Century, several dozen with girl friend turned wife Grace (Doris) . Among the Kahn favorites are the title song, “I Wish I Had a Girl,” “Treasure Me or Leave Me” (which Doris would again teach in the 1955 biographical musical drama), “Makin’ Whoopee,” “Radiant Baby,” and “It Had to Be You.” It’s an enchanting and tuneful biography, again directed by Michael Curtiz. The two stars are well matched. DVD bonuses include an unusually insightful drama short called “The Cloak Director”, a hilarious Foghorn Leghorn cartoon, and the theatrical trailer.

ON MOONLIGHT BAY (1951) and its sequel, BY THE LIGHT OF THE SILVERY MOON (1952), are Technicolor gems about diminutive town Indiana life on either side of World War One. They are inspired by the “Penrod” stories of Booth Tarkington. Doris Day and a very young Gordon MacRae star as a romantic couple; he spends two movies trying to choose if he wants to score married, which is wild because (1) Doris is a sincere sweetheart of a person even as a “grease monkey” and tomboy, and (2) he proposes and kisses her passionately in the street at the extinguish of BAY. Leon Ames plays her father, virtually the same role he played in MEET ME IN ST. LOUIS (1944) ; Rosemary DeCamp from YANKEE DOODLE DANDY (1942) is Mom; Billy Gray is Day’s pesty kid brother; and Mary Wickes is the cook who never met a tray of food she liked. The color is descend slow gorgeous; the directors are, respectively, Roy Del Ruth and David Butler, very competent craftsman filmmakers. Songs in BAY include “Cuddle Up a Slight Closer,” “It’s a Long Device to Tipperary” and “Pack Up Your Troubles.” and the title song as the film’s finale. Full-fledged musical numbers in SILVERY MOON include “Ain’t We Got Fun,” “King Chanticleer”, and the title song with ice skates on Miller’s Pond. Bonuses with BAY are a vintage sing-a-long short, a Technicolor cartoon, and the theatrical trailer. SILVERY MOON bonuses include two incredible Joe McDoakes comedy shorts, an Oscar-nominated cartoon, and the theatrical trailer.

One of Doris Day’s first films in CinemaScope, LUCKY ME (1955) has her as a superstitious woman named Candy Williams. The unluckiest day of Candy’s life turns out to be the luckiest through twists of fate. Also starring with Miss Day are Robert Cummings, Phil Silvers, Eddie Foy Jr. and Nancy Walker. Quick-witted musical numbers include “High Hopes,” “I Dispute to the Stars,” “I Wanna Insist Like an Angel,” and half a dozen more. It’s a very gratified and intellectual Technicolor and wide-screen concoction with a remastered soundtrack. Bonuses include the nostalgic short “When the Talkies Were Young”, an Oscar-nominated cartoon, and the theatrical trailer.

There is also a Volume One, of course. It includes such improbable Doris Day musical classics as THE PAJAMA GAME, CALAMITY JANE, Admire ME OR LEAVE ME, BILLY ROSE’S JUMBO, PLEASE DON”T EAT THE DAISIES, and three more slightly lesser Day movies. Those who grew up, as I did, with Asimov, Heinlein, Clarke, and the rest of the SF grandmasters as their constant companions may acquire this movie too action-oriented, with too runt emphasis on ideas, with not enough ratiocination to explain having Asimov’s name associated with it. But at the same time, I found this movie to be quite appealing, in places visually fine, and, while not following the format or legend line of any of the novel stories contained in the book I, Robot, does hew fairly closely to the larger chronicle line about robots that Asimov eventually developed in multiple related books.

The unusual book was based upon the then (1940) unheard of conception that robots, rather than being creatures prone to speed amuck and ruin their creators, would be constructed with built-in laws that would not only fabricate them edifying, but a sizable boon to all humanity. The stories were careful limited logic mysteries, dealing with the potential problems that can occur when there are conflicts between the governing three laws, the spot, and commands given the robot.

Will Smith plays a detective here, one who does not trust robots, who is jumpy there is something decidedly unfavorable about these distinguished and nearly ubiquitous machines which are driven only by logic, without any stamp of emotion to leaven their choices. Clearly this places him on the unpleasant side of general (and his commanding Lieutenant’s) understanding. But nevertheless he is called upon to investigate the apparent suicide of Dr. Lanning, co-founder and chief scientist of USR (Asimov’s name was U. S. Robotics, but that has since been archaic by a staunch company) . Susan Calvin (played by Bridget Moynahan), the company robo-psychologist, is assigned to aid him with his investigation. Early suspicion falls on Sonny, a prototype NS5 robot, as possibly having something to do with Dr. Lanning’s death.

The legend line through this early fragment of the movie is decidedly Asimovian in nature, leading me to fill that it really would follow the type of legend construction contained in the recent book. But later sections of the movie purchase it far beyond the problems of one robot, and into the realm of management of human society for a greater marvelous, a theme that Asimov did tackle in later stories. It’s almost as if this movie crammed about six different Asimov stories into this one, with a decidedly uneasy result: piece action, share mystery, fraction character gape, fragment utopian/dystopian world image, but none fully developed.

Will is OK in this section, although there are a couple of places where his actions are decidedly fabulous (pin-point accuracy shooting two revolvers from a motorcycle that has objective bounced into the air? ), and there are a couple of times when he doesn’t seem to be totally comfortable in the detective role. The portrayed character of Dr. Calvin, though, came as a shock, as the depiction by Ms. Moynahan here is almost the antithesis of Asimov’s Calvin. For those who have never read Asimov, her portrayal is well-behaved, with unprejudiced enough mixture of clinical logic and overboard emotionality to be fairly convincing - but the clash with my mental represent of Calvin as dry, unemotional, and not conventionally attractive made it difficult for me to truly evaluate this performance. James Cromwell as Dr. Lanning was almost perfect, though a very shrimp role. Sonny the robot is played (or at least voiced) beautifully by Alan Tudyk, and the CGI work here is apt - in many ways this character steals the expose.

A mixed bag: better than average visuals, some decent acting, even a space line that at least understands the unusual book material (no clear thing when it comes to Hollywood thought actual science fiction) ; but a lack of cohesiveness, action for action’s sake, and some ideas not fully developed. Better than the normal Hollywood attempt at adapting an SF classic, well-behaved for a couple hours of entertainment, but not a titanic movie.

My first reaction as this film began was “Wait! This isn’t Asimov.” The Asimov I grew up reading was a weaver of ideas, more mind candy than adventure tale. But here I found myself in Will Smith’s bedroom, and then suddenly catapulted into a wild stride after a purse grabbing robot. A far roar from the delicacy traditional by Asimov. It took a while for the shock to wear off but eventually the conflict between Smith’s gritty performance as Del Spooner and his current inspiration in the reminiscences of Dr. Susan Calvin (played by Bridget Moynahan) wears off and the idea settles into a film that is inspired by Asimov, but does not imitate him.

The sooner that happens, the better, because this is an exceptional film in its enjoy lawful, even if it does fade with the hurry of a video game. Smith creates a wisecracking character with a deep mistrust of robots. He is called in to to investigate what appears to be an impossible killing - robots can’t extinguish humans, it’s the first law of robotics. But Dr. Alfred Lanning (James Cromwell) lies monotonous and the only suspect is ‘Sonny’ a Series 5 robot with some surprising circuitry (played by Alan Tudyk) .

The death is declared a suicide, but Spooner refuses to give in. suddenly the automated world turns on the detective, whose unlikely ally is Dr. Calvin, a robopsychologist responsible for the psyches of masses of robots about to be distributed around the planet. One hair-raising rush after another propels the account along until viewers gain themselves at a surprisingly reflective conclusion. Not exactly classical Asimov, but a ample epic nonetheless.

Will does a safe job as Spooner, but he is upstaged by Moynihan’s performance. And both are blown away by Tudyk and the animators performance as Sonny. As you glimpse Sonny invent from being slightly more simpatico than the scenery into a full-blown personality there are countless moments of surprise. Moynihan and Smith do their best, but from the moment Sonny turns to Spooner and says “Thank you… you said someone not something.” The film belongs to the robots.

Excellent animation and CGI gain a world that is a retro version of the future - perhaps exactly what Asimov imagined rather than what we would now. The result is a compelling mix of the outré and the mundane that sticks in the mind objective as Sonny’s wink does.

This is not objective an action film. Threaded through it are the same questions that Asimov raised about the nature of self and intelligence. Robots may never be human, but there are far more than furniture. And if their idea processes are alien, they are more than the sum of their programming. The result is one of the more carefully concept out science fiction films in fresh times.

I somehow stumbled across this at my local Best Purchase on May 11, 2009. To the best of my knowledge, it wasn’t supposed to be released outside of rifftrax.com for another month. Naturally, I grabbed it lickety-split.

The comedy of Mike, Kevin, and Bill is solid as expected. Some of the jokes are the word-for-word sincere same as in the earlier version from Myth Films, featuring only Mike Nelson’s comedy track. In this version, however, the delivery of those lines is shared by Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett. Luckily, there is some current material mixed in that offsets the repeats. If you’ve never seen the previous version, you won’t even peer.

I only had two precise technical issues with this DVD. Firstly, the menu veil ran once and then stopped instead of looping relieve to the originate. This meant that I had to begin the entire DVD all over again. Secondly, the video was choppy in parts. The audio ran without teach, but some parts of the film seemed to be skipping video frames. I am not definite if this was an whine with all copies of this DVD or if it’s specific to my player.

All in all, it’s savory and droll, a fine engage for any fan of Rifftrax, Mystery Science Theater 3000, or Cinematic Gargantuan.

This obsolete dusky and white movie was cheaply made but became a Cult Hit shock anxiety film that started the Flesh-Eating Zombie movie craze. The obsolete MST3K crew of Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett hold it on with quite a few droll riffs. Some don’t quite hit the status, and the guys miss some choice moments to riff, but that’s always the case with Rifftrax. One of the better ones was, “A Zombie’s Worst enemy, a Clothesline.” The clueless young couple who try to run the zombies and the ultra-Angry family man win lots of attention. Rifftrax does not include used MST3K things like skits, sets, or the Bots. You never View the guys in any create. You simply HEAR them from the beginning to the demolish of the movie. Not even an Intro!

I also recommend Rifftrax “House on Tremulous Hill.” It’s terrific.

It’s almost impossible to review this film, as it’s in a category that makes Ed Wood’s efforts appear almost Speilberg like in comparison. I saw this movie on cable, and this alone is a credit to the film’s producers that they got someone to hold it. This is the type of movie that has cult potential, upright up there with Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. It’s that unpleasant. In fact, it’s so terrible I watched it twice, enjoying the fair awfulness of it all.

Where to initiate. Without spoiling any of the station, such as it is, let us unprejudiced say that the movie involves an Egyptian cat goddess (portrayed by a 60’s vintage table section that was probably picked up in the discount bin at Goodwill), a number of VERY busty young women (where they were picked up is anyone’s guess) portraying humanized female cats in search of mates (don’t ask), sundry stubble fields in Texas (where the movie was shot), and several very embarrassed looking felines, who if they could talk would be probably be suing their agents (or the ASPCA) fair now.

This is the sort of movie where production values don’t exist. Most of the movie takes state at night, and to finish this illusion the world’s cheapest blue filter was archaic. It doesn’t create things see dusky, but it certainly gives you a generous chance to glimpse if you’re blue-green colorblind. The various ’special’ effects are of such quality that you can almost hear the film’s director debating whether to spring for pizza for the crew or engage yet another ‘visual’ finish. The dialogue defies description, although, at the risk of a little spoiler, the perceive of the female lead achieving orgasm while yelling “Meow, Meow, Meow” at the top of her lungs was worth the distress of watching the rest of the film.

The above not withstanding, the movie is a hoot to peek. The young actors give it a suited shot, and no one is taking anything seriously. The willingness of the actresses to lope in the nude or semi-nude through those Texas stubble fields takes courage rarely seen in filmmaking. Whether this film was a film school project gone wild, or whether everyone enthusiastic in creating the project had one too many Lone Star beers is impossible to resolve. The credits at the slay of the film list dozens of contributors and supporters, leading me to deem that the film was paid for by passing the hat at local bars arrive Texas A&M. In any event, study the film if you find a chance. It deserves more word of mouth promoting to accept it into cult state. After all, few have the courage to earn the truly dreadful nowadays.

I was not expecting this movie to be as delectable as it was. Granted, it does not search for agreeable, and the day-for-night shots are particularly unpleasant. Once we win past these problems, though, we earn a very funny fable. The site involves an Egyptian cat goddess who transforms normal cats into Teenage Catgirls, who are In Heat, of course. There are a number of surprises before it’s all done. This is one that I would recommend, especially to my fellow Texans.
