When I first heard that Disney was going to be putting out a live action version of “Underdog,” I cringed at the view. How could one earn a live action film based on a cartoon who’s key character was A) a dog, B) interacted freely with humans and other animals and C) was definitely a product of its times? Definite, the “Scooby-Doo” films have been out for awhile, but Scooby (and his cousins) were the only animals that interacted with anyone and their update was a ravishing success. Although Disney’s respond wasn’t 100% perfect, it was definitely a pleasant response.

What the writers did was simplify the modern fable somewhat. Instead of having Underdog interact with humans by being a shoeshine boy, he became an out-of-luck ragged police dog who’s picked up by the caring-but-tense family of James Belushi and Alex Neuberger. They name him “Shoeshine.” They also made the rest of the animals, namely Polly and Riff-Raff, only interact with Underdog and not the humans. Lastly, they firmly planted this film in 2007 by updating the lingo, the music, and the science that created Underdog.

Simon Barsinister (Peter Dinklage) and Cad (Patrick Warburton) are along for the run and unbiased like in the old-fashioned TV reveal, they are Underdog’s vital adversaries. Jason Lee provides the announce of the natty pup, and gives him a refreshing update that I’m distinct will tick off fans of the novel cartoon.

The chronicle, as mentioned earlier, is based around a not-so-hot police dog who’s literally laughed off of the force by his comrades. He’s picked up by Barsinister and Cad and becomes Underdog through a lab accident. He escapes from Barsinister and is picked up by another has-been cop, James Belushi. He’s taken in by Belushi and his son and begins to develop a strong bond with the boy. The rest of the legend centers around Barsinister trying to bewitch Underdog to expend his powers to win over the city and, eventually, the world. Along the device Shoeshine/Underdog falls for Polly, his unique family gets closer, and he struggles with a catchphrase.

Sure, the epic is simplistic and entirely fantastic, but this is detached a very helpful film to bewitch your children to. I don’t acquire any harsh language but there is a runt bit of violence and some puppy misfortune. At one point a particular pup gets into a deadly place that might horror very young children. Objective know that all turns out well in the slay and I promise that your kids will be smiling before the movie is over.

This isn’t a stout film, but it is a very favorable family flick. The cast do an honorable job with what they have to work with and the special effects are of a similar (but slightly better) grade as those in other fresh live-action flicks that involve CGI characters. I’m especially fond of Underdog’s take-offs when he heads to the air.

Fans of the novel series will probably weep harmful over what has happened to their beloved Underdog. They do have a legitimate gripe but this film wasn’t made to purchase a ton of memories. It was made to blueprint in a original crowd of youngsters and their families (some of which may not have even heard of the unique prove) . The bottomline is this: It’s a trustworthy family indicate that is luscious for both kids and their parents. Haggle over the changes if you must, but in the destroy, Disney has a winner with “Underdog.”

My 6 year-old loved this movie, and frankly, so did I. It is a straight forward, good-clean-fun movie. When I accelerate through the local movie rental chain, I am disappointed at the gore and darkness that people mediate entertainment. If you want something lighthearted and scrumptious for the whole family, you can’t go infamous with this one.

This is an early cliff hanger series that we traditional to view in movie matinees with a fresh segment every week. The series includes sequences with a Ford trimotor airliner and some worthy railroad sequences. On the tape version I have seen the video quality is only exquisite and often unpleasant. However,it is fun and worthwhile.

1. The animals
2. The farm scenes, especially the ones that expose the various methods of ploughing the fields.
3. The puppet skits don’t explain the same thing over and over again.
4. The Weak MacDonald song
5. The song position to the Farmer in the Dell tune.

7. Has some advantageous extras and not fair flash cards and toy lists.

The not-so-good things about this DVD:

1. Too noteworthy of the music is dumb, when it should be upbeat. Why plough to a lullaby?
2. Younger children like it, but it’s not easy adult viewing. This DVD puts me to sleep.
3. Some of the divulge is for babies, some for toddlers, but as a whole it doesn’t absorb the interest over 24 months.

Take all of the delightfully sickening gore of the current Hellraiser, multiply it ten times or so, throw in a deliciously sinful recent source of noxious, and then provide some background on the origin of Pinhead and his fellow Cenobites, and you have Hellraiser 2: Hellbound. I savor the modern movie, but this sequel is even better in so many ways. It essentially picks up the chronicle from the destroy of the first movie (providing almost too many flashbacks to perform distinct you are up to bustle), where Kirstie (Ashley Laurence) has seen her uncle return to life sans skin to team up with her infamous stepmother to destroy her father, and she has somehow survived two encounters herself with the Cenobites. Runt did she know that her troubles were really only beginning. We get her in a mental hospital speed by the frigid and calculating Dr. Cannard (played to the hilt by Kenneth Cranham), who, as luck would have it, has been secretly delving into the secrets of the puzzle box himself. He manages to secure the bloody mattress upon which Julia died and brings her relieve to life with the benefit of some of his most insane patients. He and Julia spend a young girl unable to issue but gifted at solving puzzles to call forth the Cenobites and enter their world to satiate the exasperated doctor’s deep need to “know.” Kirstie and the calm girl follow them into the infernal labyrinth where they encounter Kirstie’s extinct friend Pinhead, who allows Kirstie time to watch because, after all, “we have eternity to know your flesh.” When Julia takes Dr. Cannard to Leviathan, lord of the labyrinth, god of flesh, hunger, and desire, he becomes a original force for unfavorable in that realm. Before the movie ends, there are some very dramatic events that add worthy depth to the entire Hellraiser series.

This is a gory movie; form no mistake about that. If you don’t want to look the human body mutilated in a number of intelligent ways, this is not the movie for you. As a fright fan, I care for the blood and guts, especially since it seems vital rather than gratuitous to satisfy the requirements of this tale. Some of the special effects are a diminutive cheesy toward the ruin, but one must remember this movie came out in 1988. The current movie seemed pleasing cramped in scope, providing unprejudiced a scrutinize into the Cenobites world. This sequel broadens that scope immensely and leads us on a visual swagger of wonder and apprehension through the labyrinth which the Cenobites call home. While the first movie naturally made one wonder where the Cenobites came from, this sequel provides many answers. We learn powerful about Pinhead in particular, getting visual evidence of the manner in which he earned his nickname. There are aspects about the movie’s conclusion I did not particularly care for, but these issues are less famous for those who are not hard core dread connoisseurs. This is not a slasher film; those who squirm their blueprint through a Jason or Freddy movie may gain themselves unprepared for the extent of the fear in this movie. Those of us who like our fear bloody and disturbing, though, will expend this as the benchmark by which we compare all future gory movies.

This film is even more complex than the first one. It is a voyage inside the brain, not the individual brain of one person but inside the collective brain of humanity. The brain is a labyrinth and it is entirely dominated and controlled by desires. But this film transforms death into a fourth dimension of life because death is fair a permanent imprisonment in this labyrinth facing a permanent non-satisfaction of one’s desires that are thus perverted into suffering or the inflicting of suffering to fresh visitors or arrivers.

But this film gives an explanation of whom the cenobites are. They are men, and eventually women, who made other humans suffer when they were humans themselves. Thus Pinhead was a colonial soldier who enjoyed torturing people. Julia becomes a guide in this labyrinth after her rebirth because she was a killer, a criminal, an assassin in proper life. But a modern cenobites is born in front of our eyes. The psychiatrist is transformed into a torturer because he was such a man in actual life, using scalpels and saws to manipulate and mutilate brains.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Hellbound: Hellraiser 2! Click Here

The twist of this film is that the cube produces a fresh shape, a double trihedra that is the very symbol of desires, of the flesh. And it is another victim of the psychiatrist, a young girl who was locked by her mother in the hospital of that man, who is able to solve the puzzle of this double trihedra in order to conclude the cube again, and it closes the labryinth of desires and the brain.

This film is a metaphor, an spacious metaphor, of society, if we think the brain as a representation or a mirror image of society, and it is. Hence Clive Barker reaches here a social level that is not always demonstrate, in such a complexity, in his work. Very often, the flesh, the desires, the feelings, the blood of life are more in the limelight. We must assume that the reason is simple : this film is not based on a book. In other words it is purely and firstly visual ; not semantic or linguistic.

The third in a trio of films by Merian Cooper, Ernest Schoedsack and Willis O’Brien’s featuring giant apes, “Much Joe Young” has a heart of gold. He’s a gargantuan ape with a soft location for Jill Young (Terry Moore) that raised him. Promoter and nightclub owner Max O’Hara (Robert Armstrong from “King Kong”) and Gregg a cowboy from Texas (Ben Johnson) attack the 18 foot vast Gorilla when they first encounter him in the wilds of Africa. When they recognize he can be great and that he’s only protecting his turf, O’Hara sees Young as the lynchpin for his recent nightclub. O’Hara convinces Jill to occupy Joe to Unusual York for his nightclub based around an African theme.

Featuring pretty effects that echo “Kong”, “Young” may not have the extraordinary eye of the previous film but the glowing mix of animation and live action done by Ray Harryhausen under O’Brien’s direction looks magnificent impressive even today. While the epic might be a slight tiring, initially for unique audiences, it has a fantastic pay off and an ending that beats the remake by a mile.

Warner has done a terrific job of transfering “Joe” to DVD. The grain isn’t quite as awful as “Kong” (the source material was, no doubt, in better shape) and Warner has restored the color to the fire sequence bringing the film cessation to its fresh glory. The commentary track features legendary animator Ray Harryhausen (who did noteworthy of the hands on animation), actress Terry Moore and visual effects Ken Ralston discussing the making of the film. There are also a duo of gargantuan extras. The Chiodo Brothers animators currently working in the industry interview Harryhausen about the effects work on the film. “Ray Harryhausen and Worthy Joe Young” takes a look help to Harryhausen’s work on this pivotal film with O’Brien (and the only film to earn O’Brien and his crew an Oscar for visual effects) . We also ge the new theatrical trailer as an added bonus.

A classic finally gets the restoration and loving care it deserves.

I’ve seen the movie 100 times. Yet watching it while listening to the commentary track was a note recent experience! Who knew half the keen trivia associated with this gem! The other 2 bonus interviews with Ray are the things dreams are made of! Not only a spruce value for the money but so above and beyond my expectations its not comic. Did I mention I liked it?

What really astonishes about Cabiria is that it was made in 1914. Technically it appears to be far great to most films from this ‘early silent’ period. The memoir is lively if somewhat complex and the acting is naturalistic. There are some unbelievable moments in this film, moments of awe, violence, comedy and favorable human emotion. At times the scenes of awe really startle because they are so unexpected in a film from 1914. The legend carries the viewer far and wide over the Roman world, but does so in such a blueprint that the anecdote feel does not overshadow the human drama and the complex emotions of the characters. This is a high quality DVD. The characterize is glorious with only a few signs of print decay. The biggest pickle probably arises from the titles often being very long and rather flowery in their language, so that it is primary to quit the DVD to read them. I have read that Cabiria was at one time shown at a length of three hours. This DVD is unprejudiced over two hours. I have no doubt that this version is the most complete available, and given the variable speeds of soundless films it is difficult to consider how worthy, if any, of the film has been lost. It would be obliging if there was some more detailed information, on the DVD packaging, which might determined up this shriek. Furthermore I have seen stills of Cabiria which note that some prints were originally tinted. It would have been better if the film could have been restored with these modern colours. These are, however, minor quibbles and do not change my decision to rate this DVD as highly as is possible.

This was the first complete peaceful movie I have ever seen, and it was intriguing to look and ponder its making 88 years ago. Considering the runt technology in movie-making then, this movie was and is a masterpiece. It has unbelievable scenery and/or sets, and the costuming reflecting the feeble Carthaginian and Roman cultures is well-done, although I can glance the influence of the styles of 1914 in clothing, hair, and makeup.

The melodramatic acting is corny at times, but it gave rise to discussion in my family about how exaggeration was needed in calm movies to compensate for the lack of speech, which in recent movies carries a lot of weight in creating the fable. The written interludes with dialogue and narration were not frequent, and therefore not boring, however, I often found it hard to follow the spot, which has as grand to do with my unfamiliarity of the history of the period, as to uncertainty about what the acting was portraying. Nevertheless, I kept my eyes glued to the mask, following the itsy-bitsy Roman girl Cabiria, sold to the Carthaginians to encourage as a ceremonial sacrifice, later rescued to benefit in the palace, and all the ensuing events surrounding her as the tides of war surge between Rome and Carthage.

I discovered this movie after watching the movie, “Satisfactory Morning Babylon” which is about two young Italian men who go to America to accumulate work, and waste up meeting the film producer, D.W. Griffith. Griffith has honest viewed “Cabiria” and is so overwhelmed, he throws away his unique film to construct one called “Intolerance” which he vows to do as pleasurable as Cabiria. In Intolerance he tries to recreate an elephant statue he had seen in Cabiria, and so while watching Cabiria, I was looking for and found those elephant statues. This historical chain of movies, from Cabiria, to Intolerance, to Helpful Morning Babylon, is an bewitching sight in itself.

My daughter loves ALL of the Wubbulous World of Dr. Seuss videos. She could gawk the same one over and over; however, I bought the entire collection for a change. Cute, delightful and have purchased the entire collection.

This movie is based on Thelma Strabel’s epic that first appeared in the Saturday Evening Post and DeMille had the sage published in book invent by Triangle publications in 1942, when the film came out! It concerns the set of the United States one hundred years prior. The subject is about ships foundering off the Florida Keys and find profits to local compaines who select 50% of the cargo value. Of course this leads to snide practices where ship captains are bribed to deliberately atomize their ships on the shoals in exchange for something on the side. The movie is as one previous reviewer has so admirably stated “Gone With The Wind” on the sea. It is a movie that shifts between barely civilized Florida and “Gentlemenly” Charleston, South Carolina. The movie is deliberately stocked with crazy characters that are memorable and droll. This is of course, the musty south and slaves are everywhere and inform and act accordingly. There are also idiotic southern belles and rich eccentrics along with a few grand performances. A standout is Raymond Massey as “King Cutler”, the worst of the net pirates. There are also looney sea captains that remind you of Popeye the Sailor and the film is Corpulent of Sea Jargon and terminology that will beget you laugh. The two main stars, Wayne and Milland are satisfactory and the climax scene in the encounter with a giant squid in their diving suits makes for the stuff of hollywood chronicle. DeMille’s scheme of working with a hugh cast also does well in this movie. The only quandary being the background scenery, which reminds you of cheap movies where a guy is driving in a car and you behold “road film” in the background. Some of these scenes are cheesy and DeMille uses multiple backgrounds in some of the situations to gain the scene seem bigger than it really is. If you like stock characters, this movie is tubby of them! From bald headed thugs with rings in their nose that don’t yelp but suppose to typical mammies and characters that today would be played by Robin Williams! The movie is VERY vivid and wonderfully preserved in Technicolor which is worth the ticket of admission. Assume this as entertainment and you will be elated. The DVD also contains the recent trailer with commentary by DeMille at the beginning of the trailer explaining what he tried to conclude.

This film is beautiful to see at. It is shot in typical DeMille fashion with the spectacle and action scenes given more importance than the stars of the film. How I wish Mr. DeMille had a few more close-up shots of the actors, especially Ray Milland. Ray as usual displays that magical charm and fantastic wit in a role that would otherwise originate lesser actors depart into insignificance when up against the standard macho-hero character rival of John Wayne. This film is colossal escapism, and very fun to ogle. The colour photography is quite gorgeous. All in all a very satisfying film fat of humour, romance, and action. My only genuine complaint is the fact that the marketing of the video bills John Wayne and Susan Hayward above Ray Milland and Paulette Goddard, when they were actually the main stars as evident in the opening credits of the film.
