Review for the Thinkpad Edge, Neo 1.5 GHz Duel Core4
My experience has been pretty limited, but as I have not read many reviews about the Edge with the Neo 1.5 GHz dual core processor, I thought it was worth discussing.

My first thoughts are the build quality is good, but not quite up to typical ThinkPad finish. I have the matte black finish, but it’s not the same rubberized black finish that ThinkPad’s are known for. This is just a matte black plastic. I was a little disappointed. The keyboard is as many have said - fantastic. Very quiet, feels great. Lenovo did a great job with the design.

The screen is fine. The trackpoint is as expected. If you are new to ThinkPads, I think this is where there is a real productivity enhancer over a typical laptop. If you type, then use the mouse, then type, then use the mouse… in a typical setup you have to move your hand. With the trackpoint, you don’t move your hand from the typical typing position. It saves time and energy. The middle trackpoint button serves as the scrolling down mechanism that most mice have. Overall, it’s been a great design for the past 7 or 8 years for ThinkPad’s, and I think most users once acclimated will appreciate it. Even if you don’t, the trackpad is smooth and good.

I had read casual remarks from PC Magazine saying that the performance of the Neo processor was bad which made me concerned at first… but I haven’t really found that to be the case. Windows 7 installation was relatively fast, installing the typical programs was relatively fast (VLC, Firefox, iTunes) I bought this computer to surf the web and write email. The performance exceeds my expectations for that. My home computer is an i7 2.6 quad core, so I’m used to speed, but I haven’t been disappointed. I watched some youtube videos which tend to be flash and processor intensive, no issues there. I have not watched any downloaded videos yet, but the graphics card is superior to the GMA 4500HD, so I would be shocked if there is an issue. The wireless download speeds from some websites were pretty impressive. I use a Dlink MIR-655 wireless router and I was downloading from Apple’s site at over 1MB per second. Not bad. Overall, it seemed crisp. Not what I was expecting from an “underpowered processor”

The computer doesn’t run very hot… but it can be somewhat warm. I haven’t tried a laptop that isn’t. My lone complaint so far is that when the computer is working hard, the fan turns on, and it is audible. Not really loud, but audible. Audible even when the TV is on. Fans should not be audible on a ULV processor. Write that down Lenovo.

I was torn between this computer and the Dell Vostro v13. Ultimately I decided on this device over the Dell because the ThinkPad had the trackpoint, a well reviewed keyboard and a removable battery. I think I’m happy with my decision, but the Dell is without question a better looking device. Style over substance? In this case, I went with the substance.

Update 2/11/2010: After a day or two more, I can give some more insight. I attempted to watch Lost in 720p streaming from abc.com last night and had mixed results. When not running full screen, the processor can keep up. When running full screen, it can ALMOST keep up… but unfortunately, falls short. This isn’t the biggest of deals, but I think users would want to know this before purchasing the machine. Watching streaming video in bed is just one of the many joys of owning a laptop.

Another thing that I didn’t note is the sound. The speakers are located under the front of the keyboard. In your lap, sound is muffled and not good. This design is more ideal for a table or laptop pad. If you use the edge on your lap, you will experience poor sound.

Also, it definitely runs a little hotter than my wife’s 2-3 year old macbook. That is kind of surprising. The battery life on the Neo is worse than the Intel Core Duo option, and I think that extra juice is turning into heat as the ThinkPad Edge review of the core duo processor has minimal heat issues.

In closing, I still like the laptop, but there are definitely compromises and issues that keep it from being easy to recommend. The Dell Vostro V13 at $650 is probably a better decision for most, albeit over $100 more than what I spent once you include delivery.

My 2 1/2 year-old son received this dvd as a Christmas gift and LOVES it! It’s now February and he smooth asks to examine it frequently. It is well-produced and enchanting so we don’t mind watching it as well.

Yes, it is longer (obviously) and more complex than the Bob TV series, and some children may win bored with it. And Elton John fans, be warned, his character does not have a very ample role.

We have been waiting for this for over a year, and my 4 year-son archaic was VERY elated to stare it finally come. We loved the last “feature length” movie (Knights of fix-a-lot) so I knew that this legend would be able to beget his attention for the burly narrative. I LOVED seeing Elton John… which my son couldn’t care less about. He wished he could view the trucks more. (They didn’t do distinguished work in this account that is for certain.) He also wanted to scrutinize Bob and his brother (Tom) together more… don’t want to spoil it, but they don’t bag together till the waste! He didn’t fetch to eye them exercise Christmas together, which was the whole point of the movie to him. He also belief the fresh Mayor was bossy… which she was.

After reading the two reviews above, I was somewhat baffled. If you do any research on this product, you will find it clearly is made only for use with Sigma lenses, not Nikon lenses. The instruction manual that comes with the converter even lists which specific Sigma lenses to use. If you want a converter for Nikon lenses, buy the Nikon TC-20E (retails for more than twice the Sigma). Of course the quality of this product is poor when using a Nikon lens! I have a Sigma 70-200 zoom and it works beautifully; it is well worth the price.

Useful enhancement, within reason4
First, to set things straight: this TC is intended for only Canon cameras, and for Sigma lenses that mount on a Canon camera. Anything else, you’re taking your chances. Second, there are optical laws that invariably predict a 2-stop decrease in the amount of light hitting the sensor. And finally, glass, no matter which brand or how many exotic elements in it, has undesirable characteristics and you will always lose some amount of clarity, saturation and perceived quality (how much varies from lens to lens and eye to eye).

Now that those fundamentals are out of the way, the results and recommendations. I took several photos using this TC mounted on my Sigma 70-200/2.8 and my Sigma 150-500/5.6~6.3. I also attempted to mount my Canon 28-70/2.8L on it, but the fit did not work (it scrapes and sticks and will not lock into place), and thus I believe they are incompatible. I did not test it with my Sigma 10-20/4.5~5.6 for obvious reasons.

AF is maintained throughout the entire range of the 70-200/2.8, as advertised in Sigma’s compatibility chart. MF is engaged electronically for the entire range on the 150-500/5.6~6.3, again per the chart. AF through the 70-200 is solid, accurate, and has no degradation of speed. MF through the 150-500 @ 500 is, as one should understand, a touchy process, though it’s aided considerably by the optical stabilization function.

Image quality @ 500mm (really, 1000mm) is not spectacular (though what does one expect, given a maximum aperture of about f/12.9). I didn’t expect wonders but I had hopes of better. Some of this is inevitably due to my challenge in focusing, which is difficult without a split-prism finder. The image quality is still fairly bright and saturated, but somewhat noisy-looking. Exposure was accurate. I need to test on monochromatic surfaces to determine what’s going on with the noise.

Tripod-mounting the camera, lens and TC for the 1000mm (500mm doubled) test shots produced the best results, improving further with MLU enabled and use of an IR remote. Image quality @ 400mm (200mm doubled) is acceptable and this should be the recommended pairing of lens and teleconverter (70-200/2.8 with this TC). This pairing results in a decent-quality 400/5.6 for well below the price of Canon’s prime and zoom lenses in this range. I won’t claim that the image quality is better; just, it’s decent, and you save a lot of money.

Build quality of the TC is fine and nothing is worth further comment other than that it’s a solid, well-built TC with multicoated elements.

I wavered between a 3-star and 4-star rating. I have owned two other TCs, and they were unquestionably 1-star at best. I went with four for this one because of its good performance with the 70-200/2.8, maintaining AF with that lens, and having pleasing build quality (I have no concerns about taking it out and using it frequently). I am however disappointed about the performance with the 150-500/4.5~5.6. I would give it a 3-star for its performance with the 150-500. I think it should at least attempt AF, and if the user has to give up and set it to MF, fine. Here, we don’t even have that luxury, and there’s no explanation on Sigma’s website or the product literature. So, if you are considering this to get yourself a cheap 1000mm lens, be aware of the drawbacks (full-time MF, somewhat noisy images, and challenging focusing in even overcast light). If you’re wanting to extend a 70-200, this is the sweet-spot.

I got this 2x converter to match the Sigma 70/200 2.8 lens. I have shot around 100 pics with this set up and have been very pleased with the results. I have shot wildlife to school track meets.
The only reason I couldn’t give this converter a perfect mark is I can’t use it with my other Nikon lens.

Some men near with provisions for a store, most of them will return from whence they came. James Stewart and Anthony Mann made some broad films together - this was the last, and by no means the least. I have said it before and I’ll say it again - James Stewart was the finest actor ever and this film features another blooming performance.

The DVD transfer (anamorphic) is friendly - describe quality and sound are pleasant. My only complaint is the lack of features. Trailers for the other Stewart/Mann films at least would have been a edifying addition.

One of the reasons that Jimmy Stewart is one of the truly vast movie stars in Hollywood history was his ability to reinvent himself. Early in his career, he excelled as a light comedian, though he could expand that into more complex comedic roles such as MR. SMITH GOES TO WASHINGTON and IT’S A Fantastic LIFE. But mainly, he was nice. He was never mean, never rough, never rugged. But in the 1950s he was wonderfully utilized in differing ways by two very different directors: Alfred Hitchcock and Anthony Mann. The latter in particular offered Stewart roles that would be the darkest, most complex of his career. When we mediate of the mammoth actor of the 1950s, Stewart is not usually the first actor of whom we reflect, but the fact is that from 1950 with the films WINCHESTER 73 (with Mann), BROKEN ARROW, and HARVEY (for which he received an Oscar nomination) to 1959 with ANATOMY OF A Execute, Stewart was the most prolific star of the decade, with a resume that no other actor can match. Not least his success depended on the string of eight films he made with Anthony Mann: WINCHESTER 73, BEND OF THE RIVER, THE NAKED SPUR, Express BAY, THE GLENN MILLER Narrative, THE FAR COUNTRY, STRATEGIC AIR Pronounce, and THE MAN FROM LARAMIE. The five Westerns of this collaboration stand comparison with any series of Westerns ever made, excluding only those of John Ford and John Wayne.

THE MAN FROM LARAMIE is probably the finest Western that Stewart and Mann made together, though it gets serious competition from THE NAKED SPUR. Unlike Clint Eastwood, who gorgeous distinguished played variations on the Man With No Name even in Westerns in which his character had a name, each of Stewart’s Western characters are strikingly different from one another. Howard Kemp in THE NAKED SPUR is a man so obsessed in his task that he borders on insanity. Will Lockhart in THE MAN FROM LARAMIE, while mad, is self-contained, deliberate, and calculating. He is a man on a mission-a U.S. Army captain going undercover to learn who was selling repeating rifles to the Apaches who ambushed a squad of soldiers, one of whom was his brother. Unlike Howard Kemp, Will Lockhart is the epitome of sanity. And unlike some of his other roles under Mann, Stewart’s Lockhart is never driven to action by his circumstances. In BEND IN THE RIVER and THE FAR COUNTRY, Stewart’s characters answer to disaster, but they don’t stare it out. Lockhart knew he was stepping into disaster from the initiate.

One of the reasons that THE MAN FROM LARAMIE is so outstanding is the presence both of a very strong cast (with a couple of principal exceptions) and finely conceived characters. Next to Stewart’s Lockhart, Arthur Kennedy’s Vic Hansboro is expedient as an almost tragic figure-the foreman of a mammoth ranch who is the glue who holds everything together, but knows that the irresponsible, incompetent, hotheaded son of the owner is destined to inherit all. He is in an impossible status, and this is brought out by a series of accidents that he finds himself in the middle of. Always noble in anything he was in, this is one of the finest roles of Kennedy’s career. The other stellar performance is by the always ample and enormously versatile Donald Crisp as cattle mogul Alec Waggoman. I savor his role because Waggoman is never reduced to a one-dimensional stereotype. Unfortunately, the film is brought down somewhat by the lackluster Cathy O’Donnell as the film’s adore interest and by Alex Nicol. Although he was memorable in two worthy scenes in which he first ropes Jimmy Stewart after burning his wagons and shooting his mules and then later shoots him in the hand after his men holds him, he overall lacks any kind of subtlety in his performance. Had the film had a more gifted actor in the role, this would have been an even better film.

Like all of the Stewart-Mann Westerns, this one was filmed on state, though each film sports a different one. THE MAN FROM LARAMIE was primarily shot around Santa Fe and Taos, and one of the joys of each of these films is the recent peep the locations form.

On a negative imprint, the abominable song that graces the beginning and kill of the film stands as one of the worst in the history of the Hollywood Western. One can only speculate what led to the selection of this song as the theme.

Turner Classic Movies has a series called The Essentials, a series dedicated to some of the finest films in the history of American cinema. If a similar series were created for the Western, all five of the Stewart-Mann films would be included. And of that series, THE MAN FROM LARAMIE might be the finest of the bunch.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Finally, Steve Reeves on DVD! The version sent to me was by Gemstone Entertainment; but appears to be the same version as United American Video. A few years wait on I was on Steve’s web space and commented that I was disappointed that there were none of his films on DVD, and the respond that I got attend was, “Only on VHS now; but honest wait a bit longer….” Though watching Italian movies can win a itsy-bitsy getting outmoded to, mainly due to the editing practices, in addition to dubbing the sound in after the movie had been completed, this movie holds the test of time very well, considering that it’s almost 45 years aged. This edition of Hercules Unchained is a notch or two up from the edition of Hercules that I previously reviewed. The print was obviously in noteworthy better condition, as the colors are generally very valid, most of the represent is fascinating, and the sound is better. My only right complaint is that it’s not presented in a natural widescreen format. Like I said with my Hercules review, some day I’m hoping to gaze a higher grade edition, in widescreen, possibly with the film digitally restored a bit better and maybe a few extras; but until then, this will more than suffice. Watching these two benefit to produce makes for a very exquisite afternoon or evening; so don’t hesitate to check out these classics!

This movie, a sequel to the unusual box-office rupture, is a fantastic treat for those of us who marveled at Steve Reeves and his awesome presence in a series of otherwise forgettable 1960s sword and sorcery adventures. Reeves, a venerable Mr. America and Mr. Universe, was absolutely stunningly stunning, and as a result became the perfect archetype for young pubescent males looking for a role model. While his fantastic baritone philosophize was dubbed (mighty later I heard him talk on “Entertainment Tonight” about the newer types of bodybuilders coming to the fore under the influence of steroids, and he squawked out an reply in a tinny miniature content that made one instantly realize why he never achieved wider stardom in more diverse American films.

But he was all beef and brawn here, and with the magic of a well-dubbed vocal difficulty became the star of the decade. This, like the fresh, was a continuation of his first role, as the immortal Hercules, and here again Reeves plays the share well. As someone who saw both movies dozens of times in the theaters, maintain me, it was all Reeves that explained the hit movies and the string of successors that followed. Of course, film producer Joseph E. Levine threw in the sparkling Sylvia Koscina and a used cast of character actors. The special effects are a bit dated, and the sets are nice, but any chance to behold Reeves going through the motions is an use in watching someone so beautiful and so well built that none of the rest of it mattered. I don’t know how to narrate how amazingly accurate this series is. As someone’s not only studied therapy and psychology academically, but who has also been “in treatment” for over 100 hours, this is the closest thing to true thing. Byrne is exceptional. Wise, quiet, suave, aloof, compassiaonte, and trusty. His supporting cast (the patients) are equally arresting.

This is a considerable, deeply titillating, sparkling, emotionally nuanced series. It consisting of nothing more than psychotherapy sessions between a cast of reoccuring characters, this display fills an vital niche missing from most television — the richness, complexity, and heartbreak of the “emotional life.”

Are you tired of seeing thin, carbon-copied and cliched characters in movies and television shows? Then this is the perfect series for you, because here the whole point is to search for the inner lives of the characters.

Does the the fact that this series focuses a spacious deal on the emotions of the characters mean that there is no “action? ” Only if you account for “action” as soley encompassing explosions or giant robot attacks.

To me, however, there was more action in this display than almost any other I’ve seen: there was the complexity of coming to terms with the guilt of death, of a disintergrating marriage, of children torn between parents, of unrequieted fancy, of the intense pressures to be successful, of professional jealousy, of the smooth desperation of everyday life, and the hurt and bravery of those trying to hold control of their lives.

The writing is really quite fabulous. I was time and again rivited by the ways in which the legend tellers captured and traced the emotionally raw and complex workings of the human heart- the tangled web which constitutes human relationships.

Some detractors have said they fetch the characters “annoying:” these characters strike me as “exact,” for, in life, people are themselves complex and bulky of paradoxes, at times annoying but at others deeply sympathetic. I came to be fervent with all the characters, and, in the ruin, they all suprised me, up until the very last episode.

The acting is also trustworthy. Gabriel Byrne (as the therapist “Paul”) gives the performance of his lifetime, and Mia Wasikowska gives a star making performance as “Sophie,” a stunned gymnast.

This is a note for people who gather themselves alive to in the human mind and heart, particularly, in the complex ways in which we become entangled with our fellow human beings, and often punish ourselves, lie to ourselves, and conceal from our believe inner truths. What is the thrill of an asteroid threatening to ruin the Earth compared to the everyday struggle with such things as cherish, guilt, and the terror of facing another day on this planet.

Truly, one of the enormous shows I have seen- novel, understanding provoking, powerfully acted, intelligently written, and as deep and as rich a portrait of the human soul as we’re likely to ever rep on television.

Conflicts with other 2.4GHz devices3
I had a lot of interference problems using the SVAT GX5203, I noticed that as soon as I disconnected my cordless phone (Panasonic 2.4GHz) the problem was solved, moving the receiver and/or the phone to another location did not work, so I had to replace my phone with a newer DECT 6.0 and everything worked just well. The reception range is pretty good and the image quality is a bit under my expectations, sound is clear and the camera seems to be tough enough for outdoor usage. The fact that the batteries need to be removed to plug the AC/DC adapter is beyond my understanding.

I bought the SVAT GX5203 security system because the way my home is sitting I can not see the driveway nor the walkway to my house.
It works great for that. At first I thought the monitor was not working very well but I realized I had to move it to get the reception just right and work around the microwave, cordless phone etc. I have it hooked to a 13 inch TV because I decided it was easier to see. But I do like the ablility to take the small monitor with me when I am busy in the back of the house. I do have to move it around a bit sometimes to get it to come in but I realized it depended on where I posistioned the monitor in relation to the camera. I have the camera mounted under the eaves outside.
Also my cat chewed the electric cord the first week I had it and I wrote general support and recieved an answer by the next day and they very geneously offered to send a replacement cord.
I am planning on buying another camera for my monitor. I think this is a great system for the price and I would recommend this product based on my experience with it.

Works Great For Watching Wildlife4
I bought the GX5203 for viewing my driveway and entryway, both of which are not visible to most parts of the house. I ended up using the camera to view the deer and wildlife coming to a corn feeder I have set up in the woods behind my house. It works great! Granted, It is an unobstructed view (lineof sight) from the feeder to where I have the monitor, but is at least 200 feet away and the recepction is crystal clear. The night viewing is even better than the day viewing because of the infrared capability. I would recommend this to any one who needs to keep an eye on something they can’t normally view.

I can’t even rationalize giving it 1 star because that implies it got 1/5 of “something” while I can’t eye that it did anything factual, except region up a lucrative platform to inaugurate millions of “fanfare” junk to market to kids i.e. numerous video games, coloring books, clothing, pc software, and soundtracks all appear when typing in Shark Record on amazon’s search.

After watching it with my principal other, we pondered off and on for about 24 hours trying desperately to reflect of a worse movie that we have seen. Smooth none have reach to mind.

This movie plays off of every stereotype I can deem of. The “frosty” shaded guy who raps and dances, the white guy that can’t dance or doesn’t know any chilly hand shakes, the jamaicans that are uninteresting, the italians that are mobsters, the white chick that is meek….and finally the unintended, me, the viewer that wants to puke. If my kids were subjected to this I would have a lot of explaining to do to dispell all the stereotypes that are maximized in this movie, ok that trivializes what my role of a parent would be if they were subjected to this…if I had taken any kid to explore this movie I would have left early, which isn’t an easy task with kids.

This movie shamelessly plugged so many consumer products I felt like I was sitting through one enormous commercial, Gup instead of Gap, Guppy Kremes instead of Kristpy Kremes, Coral Cola instead of Coka Cola to name a few mock products which are determined advertisements for the exact product due to the likeness in trademarks. Diagram to target that young market, corporate whores!

Also the apt of ths sage seemed to be if you screw up about a hundred times, some chick will befriend you out, then you can screw over that chick about a hundred times, lie to the entire community, and in the slay everyone will like you any draw and the chick will approach succor to you if you hold her balloons. Agreeable MESSAGE FOR ALL!!

Oscar (Smith) the fish leads a normal life. He is impartial an average guy working at the Whale Wash. One day, he wanders into shark territory and is chased by Frankie. Unfortunately for Frankie, the pace ends in his death, not at Oscar’s hands, but by pure accident. Oscar sees as an opportunity to “be someone”, and fast takes the credit. The fish world begins to call him the “Shark Slayer”, two female fish originate to note their interest, and the shark godfather (DeNiro) makes it his business to bag the murderer of Frankie…his son.

“Shark Anecdote” is yet another lively movie that will appeal to both children and adults. The incompatibility is, this time it almost seems made for adults first and kids second. The most positive references are to “The Godfather” and “Goodfellas”, two movies that no kids should have seen. Also, advertising placement has hurry amok in this movie. Every contrivance you turn in the city, there are definite “counterfeit ads” for trusty products that is very distracting. Most everything in this movie is overkill, in fact.

The drawl talents are credible and the animation is qualified, although I found Oscar to sight kind of creepy with his come human-looking face. “Shark Memoir” also is nothing like “Finding Nemo”, which is both righteous and poor. Well-behaved, because it is not retreading material that is not too ragged yet. Awful, because “Finding Nemo” was so distinguished better. “Shark Memoir” is a decent movie that will be enjoyed by most, and I did laugh a number of times while viewing it, but my advice is to wait for DVD.
