I’ve always loved Dragonball, i was very angry when this came out, and when i bought it I was very confused and yet cheerful with what I saw, let me elaborate. I hope you have seen Dragonball the series before getting this dvd.
The Legend itself has been changed. Goku meets people in a different order in a different spot and such. For example, you may remember Goku meets Olong in a village, while in this dvd he finds him in the desert. As the movie goes on more and more stuff changes, soon your no longer looking at Dragonball, but at a whole original yarn altogether. this was both dark (being this is a DRAGONBALL remake, but also broad that a original memoir was made)
The art was updated, looks more Dragonball GT’ish, then the older looking Dragonball art. This of course was astronomical, and very nice looking.

The audio is large, the voices in both english and japanese were nice, and the sound quality was ample.
the visuals were somewhat awful. At some times there were scratches in the film (minor, but you’ll recognize them) . I was hopeing they could fix this, but they didn’t.
The dvd itself is ok. The menu is expressionless but nice, the extra’s unfortunatly are unprejudiced Trailers and Character Bios.

All together I rate the dvd 8/10. I suggest picking this up if you like Dragonball. I do NOT suggest getting this if your novel or have never seen dragonball, because this really chages the legend ALOT. Luxuriate In!
To be just, I’m not exactly distinct what to rate this film. There were some really apt parts and some really bizarre parts. I drawl I’ll honest initiate from the beginning.
As far as I know, this film was made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the anime (it started in 1986, and this film was made in 1996) . Basically (in a blueprint) it sort of re-tells how Goku met Bulma and re-tells the adventures which occured in the anime.
Strangely enough, chronologically, the stuff that happens in the film is completely different than the anime/manga. That’s what’s really unique about it, really. I guess I really didn’t like how they re-told the Dragon Ball sage. Anybody novel to the series who sees this will be utterly confused. Those with more experience with the explain and those who have seen the entire Dragon Ball series may consider differently, however.
I’ll have to say that I like the “updated” Toriyama designs. Instead of looking like the novel designs, they’ve been somewhat redrawn to inspect more like they did in Dragon Ball Z. I plan that was icy. I also really liked the animation sequences. The intense battle scenes were chilly.
I didn’t like how anti-climactic the ending was, either. I’m not going to say exactly what happened, but correct when I conception the film was reaching a climax, it honest ends, which peeves me a cramped. Why? I spent a lot of money on this item, and now I’m not so obvious if I want to sustain it.
Personally, if you have no concept whether you want this movie, you should rent it first. Perhaps I’ll glance it a few more times before I create my final decision whether I want to retain it or not, but to me, this “re-telling” of Dragon Ball is impartial irregular and confusing to me.
