“The Power of the Alphabet”

This is the unusual episode for this DVD — a fresh “Blue’s Room” yarn in which we join Blue and her playroom friends for an alphabet playdate. Of course, it’s not an alphabet playdate without the alphabet and they’re all there, from A-to-Z, all with cramped googly eyes on the top. Blue makes words with the letters and then pretends to be the words that they’ve made. We play Polka Dots’ puzzles and receive letters to originate a word. Later, a precise kid joins Blue for a reading of the legend “Chicka Chicka ABC” and the letters of the alphabet act out the yarn.

“The Alphabet Notify”

Joe, Blue and all of our friends in the Blue’s Clues house work together to do a bellow in which each of the cabs own an item that starts with a different letter of the alphabet. “B” is blue, naturally and “J” is Joe, but we’ve tranquil got a lot of letters left to go. We assist out with this, even skidooing into a magnet board to derive some things. As for Blue’s Clues, we play the game to befriend Joe figure out what Blue wants to do in the very last cab of the alphabet recount.

“Let’s Write”

Nice one — Joe and Blue have decided to do labels for all the different things in the house. We go around everywhere, helping them to fabricate labels for things and also befriend to identify what things are based on already-existing labels. And for “Blue’s Clues,” we befriend Joe to figure out a price that Blue wants to write.

“Magenta’s Messages”

Magenta goes for a day-trip to the beach and asks Joe and Blue to prefer care of her house. To do this, she’s left us a series of messages — both a space of instructions and individual messages to complete the different tasks. These generally include pictures and words. While all of this isn’t strictly alphabet-related, it composed completes the status nicely.

These last two are bonus episodes for the DVD, although unlike past releases, they’re no longer buried in the Special Features part. Instead, they’re in the episode selection, under More Episodes, or you can also decide to play all episodes. Seek that there are no Steve episodes this time around — if you or your kids don’t like Joe, this DVD probably isn’t the procedure to go.

This release also has a few special features:

Doodle, Doodle, Spell

A fairly simple game in which the player is given two letters of a word and a recount and fills in the missing letter. Also includes one with four letters. If the injurious letter is set in, you collect a simple Try Again cover, but if you score the accurate letter, then the image animates and makes some noise. Not too poor of a game, but could have been jazzed up a bit.

Nicktrition Tips for Parents

A two-page thing to read giving tips on getting kids to try healthy foods and such. I imagine this info can also be found somewhere on the Reduce Jr. website.

Blue’s Room Spots

Three spots featuring either song numbers or Blue with proper kids. About two minutes long in total, but level-headed a nice addition.

Previews for these other shows:

Dora the Explorer — double-length DVD releases

Blue’s Room — other Blue’s Room DVDs

Rugrats — Tales From the Crib Christmas special

My Miniature Pony — another Christmas special

This DVd is very educational for anyone who has a pre-schooler. It has really helped my son discover his letters. If you would like a education & fun DVD for your pre-schooler I highly recommend this DVD.

The second and last of the Aaru Doctor Who films, Daleks Invasion Earth 2150 AD, is basically the film version of the second Dalek myth, The Dalek Invasion Of Earth, and outdoes the previous Aaru film. Instead of Ian and Barbara, we have Louise, the Doctor’s niece, and Tom Campbell, a constable who after being coshed on the head by some robbers, stumbles into the TARDIS objective as its course has been plot.

The point in making a film rendition of a TV series is to improve on the current, fair? Well, this film does do that in many areas, which is what bigger budgets are for. The scene of London in ruins is realized more effectively. Considering how the modern serial for this was 150 minutes long, condensing it to 80 minutes and tranquil getting the cream of the residence is quite a feat.

The brass march of the Robomen is snazzy and rapid. The Robomen themselves are dressed in glossy shadowy fetish suits with whips and have goggles over their eyes. I know this wasn’t a BBC production, but I’m surprised why they didn’t believe that kinky and they backtracked on having a villainess in jackboots too risque in Colony In Region.

The most valuable improvement are the Dalek flying saucers, whose two windowed fraction rotate in opposite directions. They are the most effective in aerial shots, but are done upright to scale in ground shots, as when the prisoners are escorted to the landing strip where it is parked.

There is a amusing scene spirited Tom, disguised as a Roboman. He has worry marching in sync with the other Robomen, and this includes eating, as they all eat in unison.

The claw-arm Daleks outnumber the standard sink-plunger arm Daleks, and these Daleks have a intriguing paint job, enhanced by the fact that they are in colour.

Peter Cushing makes a excellent Doctor, the gentle archetypal absent-minded professor. Roberta Tovey reappears as Susan. Other notables include Bernard Cribbins as Tom Campbell, Ray Brook as David, who made his designate in Pete Walker films (House Of Whipcord, The Flesh And Blood Exhibit, The Legend Of Tiffany Jones), and Phil Madoc as Brockley the shadowy marketeer. Madoc appeared in a number of stories: The Krotons, The Brain Of Morbius, and The Power Of Kroll. And Jill Curzon shines the camouflage as the stunning Louise.

In the extinguish, nothing compares to the modern series, but this spin-off does have a charm of its beget.

I was always fascinated with the current Dr. Who TV prove, which had a lot of surprisingly gripping, thought-provoking ideas underlying its low-budget sets and costumes. But this movie doesn’t match the TV series’ depth. It’s distinct that this movie was made “objective for kids.” The exaggerated acting, slapstick humor, and tweedle-dee soundtrack invent this a large disappointment if you behold it in the nasty mindset. As a movie for kids, it’s smart and fun. But if you go into it expecting the same quality as the present, you’ll get it very disappointing and more than a diminutive cheesy. Do your money.

After the adequate “Baseball” and downright disappointing “Jazz,” some of the luster associated with the name of Ken Burns has outmoded off in the last few years. I couldn’t support but wonder, when I saw that this documentary was in the works, if we were doomed to derive more of the same from Burns, especially considering the involvement of Stanley Crouch in the project. Thankfully, it appears that Burns has returned to produce with “Unforgivable Blackness.”

Really, it is about time somebody did a documentary on Johnson. If he isn’t the best heavyweight ever, there are only maybe two others that one could assign ahead of him. Only Ali can rival him for mastery of the science of boxing, yet Johnson is comparatively obscure these days.

In many ways, this documentary spends relatively slight time on the precise sport of boxing itself, which will be an annoyance to boxing enthusiasts. Personally, I would have enjoyed a more detailed discussion of fair how stout Johnson’s defensive skills and the fact that he was rarely a slugger in the ring (Stanley Ketchel notwithstanding), but this might have been humdrum to a mainstream audience. Mostly, Burns returns to familiar territory — run relations in an earlier era — only with a dynamic personal & rebellious twist in the person of Johnson, who was utterly unconcerned with his critics, be they shadowy or white, and who felt no compulsion to work for the betterment of anyone other than himself.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Unforgivable Blackness - The Rise and Fall of Jack Johnson! Click Here

Even though I was relatively familiar with the government’s persecution of Johnson via the Mann Act, it was tranquil incredible to watch honest how many resources the government was willing to exhaust in order to bring one sad boxer under its control. Laissez faire obviously is in the recognize of the beholder.

To Burns’ eternal credit, even though he clearly sympathizes with Johnson, he also points out that Johnson drew his acquire color line once he became champion. Burns has been well-known for serious omissions in past projects, and I fully expected to hear nothing about the fact that Johnson repeatedly refused to give Sam Langford (the greatest heavyweight never to become champion — ruin of discussion) a shot at the title. However, Burns does discuss, albeit somewhat briefly, the fact that Johnson spurned other dim boxers because there was a) no money in it, and b) the various White Hopes were mighty easier pickings. Thanks to Johnson, a whole generation of very skilled shaded boxers missed its opportunity to fight for a championship, and this is a fact that simply cannot be ignored. If Burns had omitted this, it would have badly evil the documentary. Suited for him!

The archival footage is especially gorgeous, even with the droll petite sound effects added in. Also, kudos to Burns for including Bert Sugar in his cast of talking heads. One can listen to Stanley Crouch only for so long; better to have someone who has spent his whole career writing about the sport of boxing actually discuss the sport. The voiceover work is, as usual stellar. The music (provided in fragment by Wynton Marsalis, I guess) is decent enough.

All in all, this documentary represents the return of Ken Burns to his earlier acquire, and I hope continues to obtain documentaries of this calibre, although it would be hard to derive a narrative as animated as that of Jack Johnson.

I knew something of Jack Johnson before I saw this documentary, but Ken Burns tells his account with amazing detail. One of the many revelations for me was the unbelievable level of current racism that was prevalent at the time. Supposedly reputable newspapers (e.g., The Fresh York Times) and authors (Jack London) are quoted at length, with bigoted excerpts that border on inflammatory. One couldn’t imagine hearing something of this nature from today’s mainstream media. Fair the very opinion that a gloomy man/African-American could defeat a white man seemed preposterous to many; so great so that boxers often refused to even fight one. It took Jack Johnson a long time to earn a shot at the title; but once he got it, it took white America even longer to net it wait on. What stands out in this program is the towering figure of Johnson himself.

I couldn’t aid noticing that Johnson appeared to be the prototype for the original American athlete. All the brashness, bravado, conceit and over-indulgence that we associate with the “headliners” of today…all this began with Johnson. He seemed to revel in flouting society’s conventions. When you judge of the arrogance of Ali, the controversy of Jim Brown, the bravado of Namath…Jack Johnson was all this before they were. At the same time, however, I can’t befriend but remember Charles Barkley saying “I am not a role model.” Jack Johnson wasn’t either, as powerful as Dusky America wanted him to be. In the ruin, he was too loud, too defiant, too controversial. He was too grand, really, for the times. But I came away from this program thinking exactly what he wanted his epitaph to be: Jack Johnson WAS a man. No doubt about that.

Five stars.

Christina Applegate is surprisingly great in this cult classic playing Sue Ellen. After the babysitter dies from old-fashioned age, she finds herself responsible for her four younger brothers and sisters for the entire summer. As worthy as she hates it, Sue Ellen has to come by a job to assist them all. When she applies for a receptionist job with a clothing manufacturer, her fabricated resume lands her a job with the chief executive. This is a lighthearted movie with many comic scenes.

Thinks are looking up for the Crandell children. Mom (Concetta Tomei, “Deep Impact” and “Picket Fences”) is going to Australia for two months. Things seem like they are going to be expansive until a babysitter shows up. The babysitter seems like a sweet puny old-fashioned lady until mom leaves. The babysitter then turns into a militant, giving the children orders and rules and telling everyone that she will tolerate no infractions.

The children can hardly contain their dreadful luck. Now they will be stuck with the babysitter from hell. After meeting to discuss their place, the children elect Sue Ellen (also called Swell, played by Christina Applegate, “Married with Children”) to go vow to the aged lady. Swell knocks on the traditional lady’s bedroom door and enters when she fails to acknowledge. Swell discovers that one jam was solved, but another created, when she learns that the babysitter is listless.

After another meeting of the children, they determine to buy the obsolete lady to a mortuary and tumble her off with a ticket. Unfortunately, the children neglect to prefer the money their mother left from the dilapidated lady’s clothes, as they learn after they return home. Swell and brother Kenny (Keith Coogan, who starred in another classic comedy, “Adventures in Babysitting”) settle that one of them has to accumulate a job. A flip of the pizza box and Swell starts looking for a job while brother Kenny hangs around the house and smokes pot.

Swell’s first job is at a hotdog situation, where she gets the joy of cleaning out the grease pots. Swell decides there has to be a better job she can salvage, so after a slight creative resume writing, she lands a high-paying job as an executive administrative assistant for Rose Lindsay (Joanna Cassidy, “Blade Runner” and “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”) . In spite of obstacles placed in her method by a receptionist and her toady, Bruce, played by a David Duchovny before his “X-Files” days, Swell manages to excel in her job, accidentally learning to delegate and even originate.

Of course, things are not collected sailing for working girl Swell. There is the office letch, who keeps trying to become intimate with Swell, not radiant she is only 17 years dilapidated. Swell is also trying to have a diminutive romance of her fill, with the brother of the receptionist who is trying to encourage stab Swell at the office. Brother Kenny is more anxious to hang out with his friends than acquire care of his siblings and the house. To top it all off, mom keeps calling, wondering how things are going and probably wondering why she is unable to deny to the babysitter.

I would limit viewing to children at least 14 years mature and above because of the behavior of the children. You may wish to limit viewing to an even older age for some children.

This movie is not only good; it is a laughable and delectable movie for adults. This movie is probably the best thing Christina Applegate has done to date outside of her continuing role on “Married with Children.” A few of the gags tumble flat, but the bulk of them work, and Applegate does an satisfactory job of making you feel sorry for her as her dream summer becomes a nightmare, all the while laughing at the things happening around her. As a light comedy this movie works, and is one that I will view again.

Enjoy!

I accidentally ran across the anime while searching around for other stuff and was intrigued on what it was about. Most of the time I wouldn’t seize up an anime fair by the search for of the hide, but this one looked inviting to me so I decided, hey what the heck! I’m delighted I did take this one up, it’s definitely a keeper. I’m not going to spoil it for those who haven’t seen the ending yet, but it definitely caught me a bit off guard. Spacious ending in my belief. The animation quality and impart acting(Japanese and English) is obliging. Gigantic sage line that will definitely grab your attention. I definitely recommend this to anyone who likes some action and drama. 5 stars.

I occupy both the US and international versions of this film, and the international edition is considerable better. Both versions carry a runt sexual tension throughout between Leon and Matilda, and the uncut version is more pronounced in this region, but that isn’t the reason to assume it.

The extra 24 minutes on the uncut version provides a deeper notion of the relationship between the two as the film progresses. For example, in the US version Matilda never becomes a accurate “cleaner” or hitman. It’s only hinted at when they shoot a jogger from a rooftop with blanks. In the uncut version, Leon takes her completely under his flit and teaches her the trade, including scenes where the pair hurry around killing unpleasant guys and such. In the process, Leon teaches her the “ring trick” by tossing a grenade at a victim and keeping the ring and grenade pin in his hand. This scene sets up the final scenes in the movie in a plot that the US version left short and unexplained.

If you enjoyed the US version, you’ll probably cherish the uncut version more, if only because the characters and their relationships are considerable deeper.

French director Luc Besson (”The Messenger”; “The Fifth Element”) made his U.S. film debut with this brilliant thriller of an Italian hitman who is untouchable. “The Professional” stars Jean Reno (”The Mountainous Blue”) who plays Leon, a professional hitman with ninja-like skills, who eliminates rivals for a mob boss (Danny Aiello) .

Buy,Download, Or Stream Leon - The Professional! Click Here

After a contaminated cop (Gary Oldman) eliminates the family residing next door due to a drug transaction gone rotten, Leon finds himself the guardian of young Mathilda (Natalie Portman in her cloak debut) . Taking Mathilda under his helm, Leon teaches her the art of the “cleaner”. However, anxiety lurks around every corner, and Leon must protect Mathilda from the same cops who killed her family.

Considered by many to be his masterpiece, “The Professional” was originally released internationally under the title “Leon”. However due to the feeling that American audiences might glean some material unacceptable, over 24 minutes of the film was edited out. Finally, Columbia/Tri-Star has made an fine decision in releasing the uncut, international version of this beneficial film in the U.S. as it originally was called in August 2000.

While the film’s central theme revolves around Leon and his job, the subplot where Mathilda develops an attraction for Leon is reminiscent of the novel/film “Lolita”. The chemistry between both characters in a father/daughter relationship can be intense, especially as we perceive that Mathilda is in her puberty-stage.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Leon - The Professional! Click Here

Jean Reno is gracious as always, and Gary Oldman gives a chilling performance as Stansfield, the ghastly DEA officer who murdered Mathilda’s family in frosty blood. However, the true scene-stealer in this film has to be Natalie Portman. This magnificent young girl radiates beauty and professionalism throughout the film. Her porcelain-looking skin, and her gargantuan brown eyes are well utilized in this film, making her character more childish, yet veteran to a positive extent. Portman proved to audiences in this film that she was no flash in the pan, and in her subsequent films, she continues to be a scene-stealer. She is truly Hollywood’s most gifted young actress.

In the international version, most of the 24 minutes that were left out in the film’s 1994 release in the U.S. mainly involves both Leon and Mathilda going on “cleaning sweeps” where she gets first hand training in the art of assassination. The other half of these minutes focuses on Mathilda’s attraction to Leon. Her persistent attempts to be intimate with Leon all fail, but we finally understand why Leon remains a loner when it comes to affairs if the heart. Some might be miserable about the thought of Mathilda and Leon sharing a bed together, but Besson paints this scene as one engrossing platonic fancy and not sex.

In wrapping up, I recommend this film for anyone who enjoys a nonstop, high-impact thriller in the same tradition as the “Matrix,” “Blade,” or “Lifeless Tranquil”. Luc Besson truly is one of the world’s greatest action directors, and “Leon” captures his magic. An first-rate, pulstaing film from beginning to raze!

From the splendid opening song crooned by Vic Damone to the tearful last scene, this movie will have you alternately crying, laughing, and crying again. Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr are perfection as the two people who meet on a ship and descend in treasure. Because they are each engaged to other people, they choose to build their feelings to the test of time. They agree to meet atop the Empire Spot Building in six months if they feel the same. One shows up, one doesn’t because of tragic circumstances. When they accidentally meet months later at a ballet, it is awkward, yet the chemistry cannot be denied. A sentimental painting, an art dealer’s record of a lady in a wheelchair, and Cary Grant’s dramatic opening of a door lead to an ending that requires a bulky box of tissues but is one of Hollywood’s most memorable scenes. In addition, this movie is enhanced by a delighful choir of orphans, a grandmother with an idyllic villa, and Richard Denning in a friendly supporting role. Traditionally a movie to recognize with the one you like on Valentine’s Day, this movie is pleasant alone, as a duo, or in a colossal group. Not objective a chick flick, but a movie for everyone who has ever loved or dreamed of being in esteem.

Like Charles Boyer and Irene Dunn before them, Grant and Kerr gain even more depth with general facial expressions and gestures, that remind me of Capra-esque qualities in their characters.
The scene where Grant is revisiting the home of his Grandmother who had impartial passed away…returning to the scene in his mind where Treasure was fresh and the sounds he hears of the afternoon when he had noteworthy to explore foward to…..it’s heartbreaking to want to touch something that once housed his affection…..we realise then that Grants savor for Kerr is as proper to us also.

One tag…one perfect reason why this movie appeals to me and why I am writing this review in hopes that more people will better understand this movie….
The Demolish scene….To almost whisk away from Fair appreciate, and taste the sadness and dissapointment, to kiss her hand and to say goodbye forever….and within moments….within its painful honesty ….realize that moral care for does in fact prevail over obsticals is an overwhelming revelation.

Have your students read Ruby’s book and then display this film. It illustrates not only the stuggle of integration in personal terms, but other topics related to history and government as well. The supremacy of federal over residence laws, the political and social climate of the times. My students had grief believing this narrative really happened the blueprint it did, that is untill they pulled up the accurate photos on the internet. I cannot recomend this one highly enough.

I am a 7th grader from California and my History teacher showed this video in class. I found it to be one of the best videos I have ever watched. It taught me so worthy and that day I went home and did more research about Ruby Bridges. This movie taught me so great and even my parents ask to observe it over and over again. It is heartwrenching every time I spy it and it showed my brother what hard times gloomy people went through and that they do have feelings also. This movie is OUTSTANDING and I recommend it to anyone!

This, the first of the heavenly Pink Panther series, is an extraordinary film. To know that originally Peter Ustinov was cast to play Jacques Clouseau as a straight, inept French detective is a sobering notion. After Ustinov dropped out, of course, Peter Sellers got the role and after consultation with Blake Edwards, decided to invent him not only inept, but also bumbling and accident prone, a characterization that defines how we believe of Clouseau today. This film is fascinating in that since it is the first of the series it is moving to search for the origins of the character, and how different he is here than in later ‘Panther’ films. Here is clumsy and prone to pratfalls, but is less flamboyantly slapstick than in the later films.

The film also stars the amazing David Niven, who plays the perfect suave English thief, and a very young Robert Wagner as his equally debonair nephew. Female stars are the pleasing Claudia Cardinale and Capucine, two of the top European actresses and models from the era.

The movie is a bit more sedate than the later films in the series, but smooth is one of the funniest movies of the sixties. ‘A Shot In The Dark’, also released in 1964, as the first sequel, began the transformation to the later formulas with additions such as the extraordinary Herbert Lom. ‘The Pink Panther’ does introduce the keen ‘Pink Panther’ short for the first time, as well as the often imitated, never duplicated title theme. Other viewers will have their beget celebrated scenes, and the costume party is surely one of the highlights of the film, but for my money the best scenes in the film revolve around Clouseau trying to woo his wife by playing his Stradivarius violin, over many protestations. The survey of hurt on David Niven’s face during his playing is worth the tag of the film alone

If I were doing it today, I would assume this DVD as portion of the multi DVD ‘Pink Panther’ plot, where it also includes a few animated bonuses such as a ‘trivia track’, which adds gigantic tidbits about the film.

Peter Sellers was a droll genius, and the world aloof waits for another genius of his stature. I contemplate we will be waiting a long, long time.

This first Pink Panther movie is as suitable as the next “A Shot in the Dusky.” Both are obliging films, with a sound legend, a creatively hilarious and lustrous screenplay, a well-developed region of characters, and a unusual style of filming that elevates “slapstick comedy” to the highest level of sophistication. there are so many quotable lines that are well-worth to write them down as you look the movie. The soundtrack song “Meglio Stasera(It had better be tonight) “is superior and written to fit perfectly into the theme and mood of the film. Fran Jeffries sings it very well to a crowd of people by a fireplace, and she is as savory as this scene itself. Claudia Cardinale and Capucine expose style and charm in their roles. The title sequence runs over 7 minutes and it is as reliable as the movie itself. The 60’s characterize, in my view, the highest point in fashion and general pop culture which truly reflects the highest level of sophistication and taste; in this context, this movie is one of the movies that best relate the 60’s. I agree with the other viewer that this movie should figure in the 100 Best movies of any list. The DVD is sizable with the finest describe quality; check the trailer because it is hysterically laughable and very fresh, not the case of fresh movie trailers. This movie is ideal for a cozy evening with friends and your approved martinis. I objective wish there were a special DVD edition with Director Blake Edwards’ commentary on separate track, and of others enthusiastic in the making of this masterpiece.

These were previously available only as portion of the “Collector’s Edition Megaset” which included the somewhat redundant “The Personal Best of Monty Python’s Flying Circus”.

A&E *finally* does something honest for the fans!

4 stars *only* because it’s documentary material and not sketches.
